NYFalcon and I are doing a podcast Monday afternoon about the basics of using Twitter. I have a list of questions already to answer, if you have something about Twitter you are wondering, drop the question here.

Try to be specific "Will it make me a million dollars" isn't a good question, lol.

It's part of our ABCs series, so keeping it basic, at least for the first part

Hey Loxly. I'm sure you'll cover things like which desktop tools you use for Twitter, iphone apps and things of that nature, but how about:
- How do I find twitter users in my target market?
- How do I find twitter users in my local area?

Also, could you drop a link to the podcast so I can check it out once it's done?

I am a noobtweet and have not hung around too much but just one question for now. If more come up I will post or tweet ...

Eric, I am actually going to stay away from the tools, apps and plugins for this podcast, I think that will be a whole podcast of it's own

For future podcasts we are considering using a chatroom for folks to post questions while we are recording, any interest in something like that?

You can check out http://search.twitter.com/ or use a desktop app like TweetDeck to search tweets.

Okay, this is one that I've been playing with...when is it okay to delete a tweet? Maybe if there's a typo, etc...but once that tweet has been retweeted, quoted, disseminated in whatever way, can the original poster just delete their tweet? Or, is tweeting more like something said in conversation, once you said it, it's done. Instead of taking it back, re-state yourself.

I'll answer this here AND in the podcast, great question

Once you send a tweet it's "out there" in google and in rss feeds etc. BUT you can erase it from your own page and it will hopefully eventually fade away. I have erased tweets with typos and resent, and erased tweets that I had second thoughts about or that I stated poorly. The rss will change once you erase a tweet, but google and search.twitter.com cache tweets as they happen, at least for a while. The caveat is be careful before you click the send button

Barring unforeseen complications, the podcast will be recorded this evening. All things subject to change, especially this week it seems!

We did a 2 part podcast (25 mins and 30 mins) so people wouldn't get too bored and so that people that are already on twitter don't have to listen to the "how to set up an account" part. Although part one does cover why to set up and why you might want multiple accounts. Will post the links tomorrow when they are done uploading!

What are good things to Twitter about?
Do people really want to hear daily / hourly updates of my life?
Is it ok to push a business via Twitter?
Can you run multiple Twitter accounts? Is it recommended?
What are the best tools for making Twitter easy to use?

lol, We did address this a bit in the second part of the podcast. There are times to RT and times *not* to. I find that if some I follow is RTing too much, I send them a DM. If they aren't following me, I send them an @ message and if that doesn't get their attention, I unfollow them. Especially if I follow who they are RTing. The most annoying is someone that retweets people that the rest of us already follow. Not sure of the point of that, unless they are trying to get someone specific's attention, and they should know (or be told) that will backfire!

I retweet messages that I think would be helpful to my followers that I think they may not have seen based on who sent it. I'm fairly forgiving to people who retweet, but if they are doing that more than they are adding their own info to the tweetstream, I'll end up blocking them as well.

I'm way less tolerant of the people who send out messages that look like this:
"Just woke up. Check out my site at http://somedumbsite.blah/"
"Having lunch. Check out my site at http://somedumbsite.blah/"
These people get the "Insta-Block"

And only slightly less annoying are the automatic DMs that say, "Read my magic bullet ebook on real estate. it'll change your life." you can almost hear the Insta-Block happen.

Great intro to Twitter, Deb.

I didn't realize you could change your username... It's pretty easy to do, but one of the drawbacks is that all the links to your old account and tweets become broken.

Looking forward to the other parts and more examples of how affiliates are using Twitter.

We will be able to address issues better if folks post or email specific questions to us. The first two were created from common questions we were asked or overheard I'm glad you found it useful

And yes, when you change your username any existing @ messages to you are broken, and any hardcoded links. But your friends don't have to readd you, your name and link automagically change in ongoing conversations.

I would love to actually record a podcast about your questions about using twitter as an opm/merchant. Are you game? We can use Skype.

We are also looking into doing a sort of live Q&A session using a chatroom for people to drop in questions. Kindof like a Ustream thing but not, lol. Maybe using a Skype chat? If anyone knows of a site where we can stream audio live and take questions without people having to call in using their phone that is for audio and not video like ustream please let me know.

Not GoToMeeting... that is overkill.

Just a thought, but if you did decide to use ustream (or any other site that captures video at the same time), you could always just point the camera at the screen so people could follow along with any examples that are being talked about.

Thanks Eric. I am pretty aware of what we could do with ustream. It's a future option we are considering, but for now I would like to stick with audio. People like to be able to listen while they work and not necessarily have to look at the screen. Both mediums have their place
