I think I speak for everyone when I say, HUH?!?
The only part of your posts, BigTop, that regard cookies, which is the issue here (I don't agree w/ everything CJ does either), is this:
quote:
Cookies assist Commission Junction in tracking Internet Users' activities beginning from a Publisher's web site or subscription e-mail through an Advertiser's web site that the Internet User links to from the Publisher's site or e-mail.

The first link you provided should open your eyes to the fact that their cookies are harmless...you just have to read it. It's funny that you didn't post this...
quote:
Commission Junction does not collect Internet User identity or contact information from Internet Users' visits to Commission Junction Web Sites. For each visitor to a Commission Junction Web site, the visitor's computer reaches us via a particular IP, (Internet Protocol), address. Commission Junction's servers automatically collect this IP address.

or this:
quote:
An Internet User's browser sets Cookies (when enabled) that contain small amounts of data on the Internet User's computer after a visit to any web site. Cookies assist Commission Junction in tracking Internet Users' activities beginning from a Publisher's web site or subscription e-mail through an Advertiser's web site that the Internet User links to from the Publisher's site or e-mail. If the Internet User re-visits the Advertiser's site directly, Commission Junction is able to continue to track the Internet User's activities on the Advertiser's site and reward the Publisher that referred the Internet User. The Cookies themselves tell Commission Junction nothing about the Internet User personally.

how 'bout this:
quote:
No information is obtained from the Internet User or Internet User's computer to generate the unique identifying number of the Internet User. Commission Junction's servers automatically generate the unique number. None of Commission Junction's Cookies are used to perform "User Profiling".

additionally:
quote:
If a Web site using Commission Junction's tracking technology were to provide any personally identifying information to Commission Junction beyond name and/or e-mail address, Commission Junction would discard that information immediately.

Finally:
quote:
Commission Junction does not sell or rent personally identifying information. Commission Junction does not disclose personally identifying information to anyone that Commission Junction is not authorized to do so. Commission Junction uses anonymous user data to create and report the browsing, purchasing and/or lead form completion activities of anonymous users.

It's obvious you have a personal agenda here & we're not stupid, so go try it elsewhere... It all boils down to "DATA MINING".... the holy grail of online advertising. The affiliates networks are so intertwined with the Ad industry they are tempted to sell their merchant/affiliate shopper aggregrated stats as a side income to those drooling for the information. Remember back when the frontpage at CJ touted their vision of "incontext" advertising. Well that vision became a reality the the form of TopText, Gator, WhenU and the other BHO triggering devices. Who furnished the stats to justify the investment unleashing these commission sharks into the commission pool??
Alongside of the CoC the networks have to update their privacy policy to eliminate all temptations to sell off the shopping habits and traffic/clicks to 3rd party direct advertisers or their merchants. Multiply my 60 million tracked impressions and resulting click stream by the entire active affiliate pool since 1997 and you can see the temptations when the networks have an advertising mindset and alliances through common investors and AM management firms seeking to monitize this data. Aluria soft and others can then be pressured to drop detecting network cookies as privacy infringers. Without a strick network privacy policy opening them up to law suits ( ie. CJ selling or sharing their networkwide stats to IdeaLab's Overture.com). As the networks moved their focus towards favoring Software non-domain bound affiliates 2 years ago they opened themselves up to consumer advocates pleas to correct the abuses of the advertising crowd. Mike & Charlie ... ![]() If they won't adopt and feed a bird ..flip them one! BBQ some Gator and remember to flush WhenU.. |

I still want to know my last question. I hate spyware, i use both adaware and spybot. Adaware has a free and paid version. Spybot has just 1 version. Jamie, what can i get with your paid version that i can't get with adaware or spybot. Sell me on buying it.

ROFL... Why would BigTop get defensive if it's not "L"? & how would they know Haiko was even talking about them unless it's true and/or they're truly paranoid? As for taking the thread off topic even further by bringing the site in my signature into it and making it personal, grow up & learn to read & type. There are free offers there. That's all that needs to be said about that.
Please, the issue is Aluria notifying users of Commission Junction's cookies. If you can prove that CJ sells, or shares, your information to/with someone else, thus breaking their privacy policy, why don't you shut up and sue them. Otherwise you're claims are empty and make you look downright ridiculous. Now I've seen it all..you claim egrish.com to be your site...the owner obviously speaks perfect english, unlike you. Nice try. FreeCallz.com |

I just thought bigtop was Jamie doing more of his act. Anything to hide what his company is really doing.
To clarify snap1 - since your company is so up on being affiliate friendly. You say you do not block linkshare, but do you block their cookie setting domain linksynergy.com? Because you now state - you do block cj and befree. Does anyone at your company actually know about your software and affiliate programs? And since you guys didn't answer my question in my post, but the way you are answering who is blocked here. It is very obvious you are not basing your deleting the cookie on behavior, but based on a judgment by someone at your company. So you are singling out these companies and calling them bad, which counters what you previously said. I am just looking for any consistency here in your answers, you know how people telling the truth can stick to their story under police questioning, but people who comitted the crime and are lying keep changing their story? While you can say you are affiliate friendly, there is always your actions to shoot your pretty words in the foot. Chet |

Let me join and add in my 2 cents while we are at intermission...
Our In-house program with KB - "Kowabunga" is in no way affected by Aluria's software and will not be added to their list. I am looking into the BeFree question now and will advise.. Thank you, let the "3 Ring Circus" continue... Hello everyone,
First of all, I am a She, not a He We have one last comment on this thread until we have had time to research: 1. We have asked repeatedly for a few days to research this issue rather than jump in and begin a war. We ask that you please give us that courtesy. 2. Currently we are the ONLY anti-spyware application that is trying to address this issue and resolve it. We are NOT pointing the finger at any one company or trying to discredit them. We are only trying to maintain the integrity of our product while balancing the needs of affiliates-all of which are consumers as well. 3. We are on the side of the consumer. 4. If our research concludes that there is a need to continue to detect any of the cookies that have been mentioned in this thread, I can assure you that, because we owe it TO the consumer we will continue to do so, BUT we will then ask each of the companies in question to comment and offer an explanation as to why their marketing tactics and cookie structure is such that it MUST be considered spyware. 5. In the meantime, there are some great Anti-spyware forums/sites where anyone can educate themselves on this type of Spyware Cookie. Here are 2 that I know of: http://www.thiefware.com http://www.spywareinfo.com I trust that each of you will have a great weekend. warmly, Jamie Garrison CEO Aluria Software |
