Great idea. About the only time I ever get involved with all those chain emails is doing a reply all with a link to some urban legend debunking site. Tired of the hoaxes having all the fun with viral email

Is there a not-for-profit alternative site we could use?

I understand that ParasiteWare.com was established with the best of intentions, but with most of the page being adverts and only a relatively small portion informational, it looks more like a commercial site than a public service.

I'd feel awkward sending UCE, but if we take out the "C" it becomes more compelling.

Send a message via Yahoo to phantomcat
I question the act of informing your friends, etc. that there are many (unnamed) Spyware programs available. We all know that some of the spyware programs that are available, are in fact, the culprits not the cure. Go visit Spydawn and pay $50.00 to be infected. I suggest that you give your friends the names of some programs that you know and trust rather than send them surfing in shark infested waters.

Hi,

What would you think about notifying a user that comes to your web page if
they have one of the suspected adware toolbars installed ? Probably a java
script, not a pop-up but something that would be displayed in the area of
interest. It would simply inform them that the toolbar they are using is
considered adware etc... Maybe post a link to an official site that lets them
know it's adware/spyware.

Just a thought
