Is directory submission is a great source of increasing page rank?

Agree with BurgerBoy! Once upon a time it was....not so much anymore....and increasing page rank is not a "practical" goal anyway.

Mostly, Page Rank is only concern issue for those blog and website owners who sell ad space on their site. Practically PR makes no sense. Targeted traffic is more important and there are lot of resources available for that.

You just need to make your view broader for marketing, because marketing subject itself is huge and it's not limited for only SEO.

They are still effective. It depends on if they are relevant and editorial approved. These are the best. Yahoo, BOW, and DMOZ are the best.

It will add backlinks to your site but not necessarily page rank. All depends on the quality of the directory... but, as said above, PR should not be your main focus now

Directory submission is the important part of link building campaign but it only helps you to optimizing your keyword not for page rank.

Directory submissions are used to build backlinks and not for page rank. However if you get linked to DMOZ and Google directory, it could help increase your page rank.

As for DMOZ -- There's some thinking that it has now become worthless or nearly worthless for much of anything. Here's an older thread where DMOZ was discussed that might be of interest:

From our experience directory submission google has decreased the effect of directory submission. But that does not mean it is worthless..

If you choose high PR directories and take the time and submit to many of them (or outsource it..) they still hold some weight. And in these times it is all about link diversity. As many backlinks from as many different sources and IPs as possible.

In conclusion, yes directory submission has lost its strength but you should still have it in your SEO plan for sure! If you do not, then you are just losing out on a deep pond of freely available backlinks!

Directory submission doesn't have the same effect it used to. But I've done a lot of reading on the subject and it seems that most people still see an increase in page rank by having a decent number of backlinks. So I think it doesn't hurt to submit.

Now everyone can have a directory, so the real value has been diminished. Also there are plenty of automatic submission tools and software which makes directories useless by placing nt quality websites, but all kinds of small keyword push websites.

I do not believe in the powe of directories. They do not bring the traffic and money spent on paid inclusions does not pay back.
