The legal work and development of the mechanics for the referendum is taking much longer than I expected (wait, it's the government). We will have a website up soon where people can request petitions. It's all paper, I'm afraid.

Amazon has hired a big-time signature-gathering co and high priced consultants, as has the opposition. George Skelton, the LA Times long-time Sacramento correspondent, has estimated that between Amazon and opponents of the referendum, it looks like they are prepared to spend $100 Million.
I doubt Amazon has anywhere near 500,000 affiliates total. They had 10,000 in Ca before they were fired. Look at my July 11 post. ANYONE can GET ANY initiative or referendum on the ballot under CA's pay-for-signatures system. The real money will be spent on the election, not on the qualifying. The cost of 1/2 M signatures will only be around $2M.

There aren't 500k affiliates in the world, much less in California (the PMA's official count is 215,000 active affiliates in the US). It is very typical for signature gathering firms to be engaged for any ballot measure, including a referendum. You're right, that's the easy and cheap part. The expensive part comes closer to the election, with all those annoying commercials. That's going to be painful to watch.

Good to know they're making the rounds. I hope they come to my neck of the woods soon. Rebecca, I'm looking forward to seeing the website once it's ready - I'm lining up my family's signatures already

Anyone have any updates on this? Is there another site/post with more information on how to sign this petition to get the referendum pushed through? I've searched around but so far no luck... will continue looking and update you guys if I find anything.

You have to request paper copies or find someone collecting signatures. You can request paper copies at getbackinbusiness.org or jobsnottaxes.com
Just sent mine back today - 6 signatures ![]() I haven't seen anybody collecting sigs near me, unfortunately. Info does seem to be very sparse, though... |
