Just got an email from Drugstore.com confirming that they have chosen to start collecting sales tax and will not be terminating CA affiliates! Woot!

Drugstore.com was bought by Walgreens in the spring, shortly after the nexus tax law passed in Illinois. Walgreens was the primary proponent for the law in Illinois, and I've been waiting to see what they were going to do. It would have made one heck of a story if they didn't collect.

In Illinois, they don't put sales tax in the checkout, but after your credit card is run, you get charged the tax. I'm guessing they haven't had time to update their shopping cart yet. I can't imagine that's kosher, what if the person pays their use tax because their invoice didn't show they were charged tax? That person would be double-taxed.

Hi Rebecca. We do show estimated tax at checkout (based on the state/those where we do indeed collect tax). This was updated on 7/1, so the experience from when you ordered early in June would have been slightly different.
