Rumors are true... Buy.com is moving to CJ. Just received the email:

"We will be concluding the current Buy.com Affiliate Program on LinkShare and transitioning to Commission Junction!
We enjoy working with you and are excited to invite you to join Buy.com in the Commission Junction Network, so you can be part of our new and improved Affiliate Marketing Program. As one of Buy.com’s loyal affiliates, we will offer you a special commission rate bonus if you join our new Affiliate program by May 31, 2005...."

Now if only my favorite LS merchant would make the move to CJ, I could dump LS completely.

.... but, don't think Buy.com is any sort of a life vest ... from the "RMS LS" going down ... Buy.com has a nice history of not being affiliate friendly, to say the least!

Search for buy.com ( here ) ... but start by reading ...

Reads to me like this statement on the top of every page .... Join Yub Club and get 3% off everything you buy! Click here for details. YUB shoppers are exempt from affiliate commissions. Their Yub discount is higher then my referral shopper commission. Then comes the strange part of moving now that LS has moved like a bull in a china shop into consolidated payments and affiliate verification to weed out some bad actors. Are there some BHO's at CJ that aren't allowed into the LS commission pool that Buy.com just can't do without?

As I read this thread, that is exactly the question I asked myself. Are the AMs who make their living off of BHOs canibalizing the organic traffic now going to move to CJ? Maybe LS has dropped more parasites and has not announced it.
A nice lady from Buy.com called me once and asked me to publish them. While on the phone with her, I found them on 2 parasite programs and asked about these relationships. She told me the very same thing all parasite-riddled merchants say, "Those publishers make up a very small and insignificant percentage of our affiliate sales." (how many times have we all heard that?) To which I always reply, "Then why bother with them if they will destroy your reputation and credibility among your core affiliate base?"
I never get a straight answer to that question.

Hi Uncle Scooter,

Thanks for your post. The "nice lady" you spoke to was my assistant Tiffany. I can tell you that we have terminated any relationships with parasitic publishers. If you know of any that we haven't caught yet, feel free to email them to me at affiliates@buy.com and I will have CJ look into right away and open an investigation.

In regards to Yub.com advertisements, as long as affiliates do not alter the LS code, and now CJ code as of June 1st, all Yub.com ads are suppressed from affiliate referred traffic. You will however see the ads if you just come directly to Buy.com and there isn’t a LS or CJ cookie recognized.

We value your business and appreciate your feedback.

Have a great weekend,
Melissa

Not the ones you want to take advice from on that matter. I would talk to Ben or Kellie for that info.

Thanks Melissa,
First of all, if you are depending on this to happen "I will have CJ look into right away and open an investigation" best of luck.
In a nutshell, I would say that any site affiliated with Yub, most affiliates will Snub because we need our commissions to buy Grub and pay the utilities so we have water in the Tub. (Pardon the alliteration, I couldn't help myself)
I have had enough of merchants finding ways to prop up those who conspire to gain commissions that should go to the rightful, referring affiliate.
I appreciate your prompt and courteous reply. At this time, I will still pass, but I wish you the very best with Club Yub and the other affiliate links on your site.

Where the heck is the Buy.com link in CJ?

I got 3 emails from Buy.com. The "Apply" links in the emails for existing CJ publisher do not work correctly. Basically it freezes after accepting the T&C.

You have to use the link in the email. They won't publicly show up on CJ until 6/1 and won't approve affiliates until that time (thanks to the Linkshare exclusivity clause in the contract).

It worked for me, so it might just be your browser.

Just proves a change in Networks certainly doesn't indicate a change is how an affiliate program is run.

What an absolutely stupid thing to post here! Good grief and half.

http://www.shopathomeselect.com/all_...1-6446B7546068} Buy.com 2% cash back

http://www.toprebates.com/cgi/shop.p...=a&showall=0#B Buy.com up to 5%

http://www.ebates.com/all_stores.go#B Buy.com 2%

http://byshop.buyersport.com/stores/retailers.html Buy.com 0.3%-1% (now that one is just FUNNY)

http://www.boxtops4education.com/shop/stores_unreg.asp Buy.com 1.5%

http://www.cashbackbuddy.com/merchants.php Buy.com 1.5% (you even rated for a banner on that page)

http://www.donationtree.com/shopping...at=Computers&m= Buy.com Rebates vary

http://www.giantrewards.com/generate...ll_null_1.html Buy.com 2%

http://www.igive.com/html/malltour.cfm Buy.com 1.2%

http://www.mypoints.com/mp/DSTATIAL....5415$845687327 Buy.com (have to log in to see the reward amount)

http://www.rebatenation.com/cgi/shop...=a&showall=0#B Buy.com 1.5%

http://www.schoolpop.com/cgi/allmerch.cgi?start=b Buy.com 1%

http://shop.upromise.com/browse.php?olmcat=all Buy.com 2%

http://www.websearch.com/Shopping/Sh...Category=01.02 Buy.com second listing with a LS link.

That's just some of the loyalty sites (except for websearch). That's not any of all the other types of parasites or other loyalty sites. Better get CJ cracking on all those investigations.

Take your lies to the less educated. Oh wait...it wasn't a lie because none of those sites listed are parasites?? If that's the leg you intend to stand on, then take your spin to the less educated. But coming here and stating you've terminated any parasitic publishers is just plain stupid IMO.

That's a truly brilliant post, Kellie. I was thinking about posting a similar list on my own, but you've done a more thorough job than I would have!

Of course there are some additional examples. For example, every so often I run into a copy of the IBIS toolbar that auto-sets Buy.com cookies in response to user type-ins of www.buy.com directly. Not all IBIS installs do this, mind you, but some do. And Buy.com has the dubious honor of being one of just ~20 merchants that IBIS does this to.

And Mellissa proves she is another AM that does not know a parasite from her ass.

Same thing happened to me in IE. I had to use FireFox to get it to work correctly.

It is a bug that effects only certain publishers - we should have it fixed early next week.

Todd - two issues here - emailed apply link and parasite free claim - you tagged the former - comments on the latter?
