Up until yesterday everything seemed to be going fine with my associate engine based website. I had not touched the site for a couple of weeks and the site was looking good. Yesterday the site decided to go straight to Amazon.
Even when checking the site via this.. http://www.mydomain.com/cgi-bin/ae.pl and replacing the domain with my domain name, it goes to Amazon.

As I have not touched my website in a couple of weeks, what could cause this?
Change of mode or browse number? What is the easiest way to get the site back without doing a complete upload again?

The cached version of my website via Google looks fine.

I am also getting "No results found" on searches that had been working for months and years.

I wonder if Amazon changed something and we need a an updated version of AsoociateEngine?

I'm wondering the same thing. If it kept my amazon associates ID when it gets redirected, I'd be somewhat happier at the moment.

I am now convinced that the problem is on the AE script side, and is not my own, because one of Cusimano's sample sites is showing the same "No results found" problem:

It looks to be that way. I sent an email to support a few hours ago but I have not yet heard back. For reference, here is my website which now goes straight to Amazon...

All was fine a couple of days ago and I have not touched the script since October 1st.

Amazon changed something at their end. Working on an AE update.

FYI, when redirection happens, AE always redirects with your amazon ID (unless you have no key or your key has expired). The ID may not appear in the web browser's Address bar because amazon's website does its own redirection thus making it appear there was no ID. That is, AE redirects to amazon with an ID, amazon does some processing and redirects to an amazon url that has no ID. All you see is the last url.

David, thank you very much for the quick response and explaining the whole redirection thing.

I have the same problem but I have started getting problems with other Amazon scripts (since about two days ago).

Let me know when the updated script is available.

ae.pl v10.10.20 released. Download from:
Associate Engine Script : Download

Install it and also obtain an AWS Access Key. See:
Associate Engine Script : Access Key

The old version (and also the new version without your own AWS Access Key) will work intermittently for now.

The problem is caused because Amazon has recently introduced "Efficiency Guidelines" that impose a limit on how many requests can be made per hour per AWS Access Key. For simplicity of configuration, all ae.pl's everywhere shared one AWS Access Key (hard-coded into ae.pl). That meant that AWS requests from all ae.pl's everywhere were being counted towards a single AWS Access Key. All those AWS requests across all ae.pl's occasionally exceeded the Efficiency Guidelines limits thus causing Amazon to return no data to AE. The solution is for you to install the latest AE (which lets you configure the AWS Access Key) and obtain and install your own AWS Access Key. FYI, other Amazon scripts from other software vendors will exhibit the same problem if they also use a shared AWS Access Key.

Some users who downloaded AE v10.10.20 still had problems.
I have released AE v10.10.20b to fix that. Get it from:
Associate Engine Script : Download
