There was a rumour going around that Ebates was no longer Auto Pushing Tracking onto consumers PCs , that a "click was required" from the consumer in order for tracking to be initiated... well it's a very much not true.

Ebates are alive and well in the "stuff your cookie without consumer interaction" area of tracking...

Video available upon request. Got one for care2.com doing the same direct from Organic traffic no less with the LS redirect hidden but the cookie updated to use their tracking ID.

Cheers

Chris

Nothing new, but there were a growing number of claims from people that they were no longer stuffing, I feel an update on this was due.

Cheers

The stuffing is not requiring any action by the user. The pop up loads and at the same time the browser redirects through LinkShare to create tracking, no click required or requested from the user.

I believe user action is required for it to be within the bounds of the COC correct?

Cheers

Chris

No, but a very common misconception of what the COC allows and doesn't allow. I asked that very question of CJ not long after the first COC came out.

Basically, a consenual download (the click to accept the EULA and install) is what is viewed as intent on the end users part for the life of the app on the computer. IOW, it serves as an affiliate link actually being clicked on. So they can automatically redirect, as long as the end user agreed to the install.

There are 2 exceptions for them being able to automatically redirect. The end user just got to the merchant's site via 1) from another affiliate who codes their web site with the direct Network link as the "click" link on their site and 2) another affiliate who who codes their web site with server side redirects and also appends afsrc=1 to the click link on their own site.

Anything else is fair game and they can automatically redirect on and be within the COC.
