While Robert Grosshandler may have stated recently during his interview on WebmasterRadio that Merchants need to assess whether or not their business model can accomodate Igive's business model (specifically responding to a Merchant's question regarding the 'double dipping' issue with igive's software) and not partner with Igive if it can't, it would seem that a Merchant coming to the conclusion of not partnering with Igive doesn't necessarily free the Merchant from having their business negatively impacted by IGive or IGive's software.
It would seem that the IGive software is targeting a select few Merchants who are not partnering with IGive. Now when IGive starts using it's software as a sword, then at least for me all arguments/justifications overall for their software and how it operates go completely out the window. Also while I will not post such information publicly at this time, I have more than one form of documentation which proves without doubt that the behavior reported on here is not a glitch of some sort, but rather it is intentional programming within the IGive software. If push comes to shove, I will post that documentation. Shame on You IGive #1 http://www.affiliatefairplay.com/igive/zappos_shoesdotcom_1292005.swf.html I do a direct type-in to Zappos. I get a pop up from IGive stating this Merchant is NOT part of the IGive network. I am directed to Shoes.com via IGive's affiliate link. Questions: 1. Is Zappo's aware of this behavior? 2. Is Shoes.com aware of this behavior? Did they authorize such behavior? Do they condone such behavior? 3. Do the Networks allow such behavior or is this a TOS violation? http://www.affiliatefairplay.com/igive/vicsecrets_figleaves_01292005.swf.html I do a direct type-in to Victoria's Secrets. I receive a pop up from IGive stating this store in not part of the IGive Network. I am directed to FigLeaves via IGive's affiliate link. Questions: 1. Is Victoria's Secrets aware of this behavior? 2. Is Figleaves aware of this behavior? Did they authorize such behavior? Do they condone such behavior? 3. Do the Networks allow such behavior or is this a TOS violation? In general do Merchants who make the decision not to partner with IGive have to be concerned about having their own traffic, that the consumer consciously and of their own true intent to visit the Merchant's site, whisked away to competitors??? With the historical litigation involving Merchant's suing Merchants over pop ups of their competitors on their sites and the like, are IGive Merchant Partners aware of this behavior by the IGive software? Do IGive Merchants support such behavior? Do they know for certain if the traffic being delivered to them via IGive did not originate from a competitor's site? What risk assessment do they place on this behavior? |

I do a direct type-in to Amazon. I get an IGive pop-up stating this Merchant is not part of the IGive Network. I am directed to a page on IGive giving a lengthy explanation that Amazon made the decision not to partner with IGive in April 2003. They further make a plea to their members who have arrived at this page that they can contact Amazon (giving contact info) in order to have Amazon rejoin the IGive Network. Obviously this page has not swayed Amazon in their decision, since Amazon remains not a partner. IGive also provides a link to Amazon if the end user still wants to shop at Amazon, but not have a portion of that sale go to their favorite charity. First off, this is completely laughable to IGive's justification of their software that members of IGive who have downloaded the software always want their purchases to reflect a donation to their favorite charity and hence those consumers become IGive's above all else. Obviously there must be times that their members make the decision for a purchase and not have a donation to their favorite charity occur. While IGive also lists competitors of Amazon's on that page who do partner with IGive, they also provide a link to Amazon. So IGive must recognize that many factors do play into the consumers decision to make a purchase, even when some type of incentive is put into the mix and the carrot of the incentive doesn't necessarily always win out. IGive must certainly realize this, since the links to Amazon on that page are affiliate links to a web site called awholelottabooks. The link does a server side rediret to Amazon (documentation on file). Now doing a reverse IP on IGive.com shows awholelottabooks on the same servers as IGive. See attached jpg. Questions: 1. Is Amazon aware of this behavior? 2. Is this the type of behavior IGive will engage in when a Merchant decides not to partner with them or to terminate the partnership? 3. Is Amazon aware that IGive is targeting their traffic yet and attempting to direct it to either a competitor or a second affiliate account with Amazon? The net effect for those folks who click "I want to shop at Amazon anyway" is that IGive is getting a commission on traffic that was already at Amazon to begin with. Certainly aspect of IGive's business model might well have been part of the decision by Amazon to no longer partner with IGive? 4. Is this the type of behavior that Merchants want from the affiliate's they 'partner' with? I have a few more Shame on You IGive that I will be posting tomorrow. I'm still getting all the files uploaded and it's getting late for me tonight. |

Desperate marketing, by desperate merchants, requires hiring the sleeziest 3rd party popup hitmen in the advertising business. System kidnappers, browser hijackers, trojan horse/Adware/Spyware bundling, Freebee peddlers sucker punching children into infecting Mom & Pops system, are all part of the BHO game. Imagine the turmoil within a system having 10 TopMoxie applications all fighting for the popup re-direct.
The losers are the Advertising people tasked with brand image using Gorilla Marketers when every hated popup broadcasts ...this merchant is a desperate sleezebag. Sure iGive acts out and copies all the moves of Gator/WhenU/180Solutions and all other TopMoxie apps like eBates completely turning online advertising into a Civil War Zone. Good work Ms. B.

Gosh! How people could be so brave to pop-up on merchants site when it was typed directly in to the search bar and think they will get away with it. And what were they thinking how long they can survive with redirecting the traffic from the big names like amazon, victoria's secret, zappos.
If I remember it correctly and not mistaken I read a thread here where shoes.com announced to be parasite free. Great work Kellie as always!

Mike,
This is about how IGive behaves intentionally towards Merchants who have chosen not to partner with them. Just for accuracy sake here...TopMoxie will only allow for one of their products to operate at a time on the end users computer, so there can be no battle of the browser with regards to TopMoxie applications. This has been the case for quite some time now. |

IGive is also redirecting to their own web site on some Merchants who do not partner with them. Personally, I started seeing a bit of a pattern emerge when looking at who the Merchants are that IGive programs their software to pop on for the Merchant not in their program. I'll let others draw their own conclusions here.
On the following videos, I was not always logged into my account with IGive when the pop occurred. In such cases the page I'm taken to is the login page. When logged in, the end user is taken to a directory page for the Merchant's vertical on the IGive site which of course lists all the competitors who are partnered with IGive. Because the video software is very memory intensive on my computer and tends to slow systems down, I did not necessarily follow through with going to IGive once the popup showed because of the large file sizes. However, there are enough videos to show the pattern and what happens. Where I was not logged into IGive, I will provide the URL on IGive that I would have been redirected to if I had been logged in. This information was obtained from files transmitted to my computer by igive. You will need to be patient on some of these as the popup appears to have a timer and be delayed. 1800Contacts http://www.affiliatefairplay.com/igive/1800contacts_igive_01302005.swf.html ** These guys are on the Merchant List to participate in EcomXpo. I have a couple more points to make regarding recently observed behavior of the IGive software that I will try to post later today. Monday's are a busy day for me with my other business.

Appauling behavior similar to the Mofia's protection racketers approach to marketing. At one time the network hype pitched that B-a-HO's had to generate a physical action by their members to allow for any click credit or re-direct. What's up with this obvious violation of the TOS, CoC and Adendium where the only way for a iGive customer to get to Amazon is through a commissionable link from the re-direct page. Does iGive do this also with other major destination shopping sites? Imagine they program their BHO app to re-direct all traffic going to the 27th most visited site on the internet -Overstock- with this same forced commission extortion play.
If Overstock refuses to pay the exposure slotting fee does iGive and the other TopMoxie apps, like eBates, then pop or re-direct shoppers to smartbargains.com?? Obviously there is no way any legit honest merchant can operate with these BHO browser hijackers to keep them from making commissions on non-commissionable actions. Every merchant who has BHO partnerships turns their return day cookies into meaningless statistics. All BHO merchants are session only sales partners washing cookies at every pop.

Definitely have to call up the merchants, that's all it will take in most cases. I know Victoria's Secret, Limited Brands will act pretty swiftly.

No wonder the networks don't address non-reporting issues, leakage, Spyware data mining interferring with click totals and cookies, when they have hundreds of these BHO's, and the cookie stuffers scraping off 80% of all commission payouts.

Kelly,
Awesome as ussual. I'm curious as to if an affiliate link to Amazon.com was clicked, would the results be the same? I'm still trying to catch up with the igive info. I would be surprised if Amazon is aware and accepts that they are paying commissions out because of igive redirecting their traffic to what appears to be an affiliate link of igive.com . It's also interesting that when I type in the url for awholelottabooks.com it comes up with a 403 error - Not Authorized. Make me wonder how many more sites they have and are using as sites for commissions.

Wow, this is amazing information - thanks Kellie. I am amazed that merchants choose to work with them at all, but then again they may get hurt either way.

I have done what I had to do. After seeing this thread immediately I have sent an email, with link to this thread, to the merchant I am working with and I know their policy against parasites. Hope to see a positive response. Will keep everyone posted whatever comes out.

Someone needs to call a Senator and get them to view these. Ms. B's demos makes it so easy to loathe these parties. There's been legislation steps and talk of more in California and several other places. In their home states, Zappos, V Secret, Amazon and the others pay a great deal of taxes - and they have influence in politics.
I am starting to believe we'll see change in 2005. These perps have gotten so brash and unshamed with getting away with it for so long - and now they are so far over the line of decency that they are completely red-handed and isolated. 60 minutes would love to have some pro videos made to demonstrate how America is being ripped off. Under the guise of charity - iGive makes me SICK. It's time to yank the sheep's clothes off of the wolf. |
