Hi! I don't know much about affiliate marketing, but this looks like one place I might learn a bunch. I suspect I'm approaching this whole thing from an odd angle (perhaps that's 'backwards'), so I find myself with two big questions, if anyone can help ...
One, how do I find an expert in affiliate marketing to confidentially speak with about my approach, so he or she can laugh at me? Any advice about 'experts'? I'm of course willing to pay (if necessary!) for someone's time; I just don't know -who- to pay. Most 'affiliate marketing consultants' appear to focus on helping people with a product set up a program, but that's not my particular concern.
Two, the site on which I'd be advertising affiliate programs is pretty conservative, as far as this stuff goes, so only the big established companies with strong reputations would really fly. No problem with Amazon, say, but nobody'd be happy with makemillionsfromsuet-dot-com. So I'm trying to find a list of the biggest and oldest and most 'normal' companies with affiliate programs. The 'Amazons' of the different categories: electronics, cell phones, hosting, clothing, toys, whatever. Sadly (for my wallet, at least), the reputation of the company is far more important than the profitability of the program.
Any suggestions where I might find such a list? I thought I was doing okay, then started finding Jellyfish and Chitika, and all these things I've never even heard of, and don't really understand, and got scared and ran here for help!

You already have. It's all in here. You just need to look around a bit.

Well, at least I acknowledge that I'm an idiot right up front!
Many thanks for the links. I guess I'm a bit overwhelmed by the sheer size of the place. I'm trying to wrap my head around this stuff, and keep following links to the Far Reaches of the web ...

"I guess I'm a bit overwhelmed by the sheer size of the place."
I understand. I've posted this before but the first time I ever came here, I read around and left because I had no idea what anybody was talking about. Came back later and just started reading everyday and asking questions. It's going to be overwhelming at first and maybe even afterward. But what Mack just said. Stick around, read, use the search function and ask questions.

One more important DON'T buy anything until you research it or ask about it here first.
PS. Never post a thread asking when you'll get paid. Ever see the movie The Birds by Alfred Hitchcock? Picture that with pink flamingos.......

I am relieved to find this is not a thread about me, based on the title. Welcome!

She's all talk. Watching too much wrestling. Ever watch a Kung Fu movie and then right afterwards think you were a Kung Fu expert like the one you just saw on screen? Same deal here. Who's scared of some pink birds? I think my grandma has a few of them captive on her lawn.

Banks, you seem sincere and intelligent. I wouldn't be surprised if you have some innovative ideas. If you'd like someone to bounce your ideas off of, drop me an email and I'll send you my phone number. I'd be more than happy to give you my opinions and advice.
