Hey folks. I've been an affiliate manager for a year or so now, and have had modest success in the brick and mortar application(third party print-based promotions, i.e. business cards etc).

What I have no compunction about expressing, is that I am quite the novice when it comes to the online world of affiliate marketing and it's at times dizzying lexicon.

What I'm really and ultimately looking to accomplish by getting my feet wet in the web affiliate arena, is garner a few super affiliates to get the job done right. Thus, I need to learn how to properly target and source the right individuals and get my offering right in front of their faces.

Here to learn all I can and ask a lot of questions. Hopefully, you good folks will indulge me. Happy to be here.

Well I can say that you are not off to a great start. Your username is ambiguous and has no relationship to what you are trying to achieve. Although you are not able to write a manual signature you include no name for us to use in addressing you.

If you are trying to attract affiliates you have to find them by either researching then sending a compelling reason why they should move profitable traffic over to your brand. Or you need to advertise and do the same. Start with a competitive analysis of your competitors and figure what they have, what they offer an how you can better that. Then you need to start finding affiliates focused on your niche and start recruiting. If it was easy then everyone would do it.

Thanks for the tough love Chuck, but I wouldn't agree it necessary to say I'm not off to a great start because of a user name. That's not the proper approach to addressing the issue and reads as defeatist.

Simply telling me it would have been wiser or that is the productive standard here would have more than sufficed.

Hopefully I can turn around my "bad start".

We see introduction posts daily.. since you're an affiliate manager, it's a good idea to extend yourself personally (not promoting the program, your own self), so we publishers know who you are.

It sometimes feels like Affiliate Marketing is an anonymous business, but publishers are your business partners. If you treat this forum like any other industry association, you will reap the benefits. I believe that's what Chuck was talking about. Try not to take things personally here..

And welcome to ABW!

Yeah, the affiliate manager side of the business isn't about anonymity, it's about developing a reputation and rapport with affiliates (many of whom love anonymity on their end) . You need to be more forthcoming about who you are and where you work or your not going to get much traction from this place. Your intro seems a little contrived and I think Chuck's advice is actually solid. Sorry if you don't like what he had to say.
