Jazz pianists had such awesome names and such style.



It seem like they always had cool hats, colorful suits, or some other amazing way of expressing themselves in clothes, but especially in their music.

As part of our Week of the Widget, I have put together a list of the top ten jazz pianists of all-time.

Our list goes something like this...

10 Bud Powell
One of the two most significant pianists of the style of modern jazz that came to be known as "bop" along with our #1
9 Fats Waller
Waller was a much copied jazz pianist and improvisor, and he was considered one of the best stride style players.
8 McCoy Tyner
Known for his work with the John Coltrane Quartet and later a long solo career, Tyner's style of piano is easily comparable to Coltrane' style of saxophone.
7 Keith Jarrett
His improvisation technique combines not only jazz, but also other forms of music, especially Western classical music, gospel, blues, and ethnic folk music.
6 Oscar Peterson
Canadian pianist who released over 200 recordings, won seven Grammy Awards, and received other numerous awards over the course of his career. He was called the "Maharaja of the keyboard" by Duke Ellington.
