Not sure if you've see this, but it's a pretty big deal: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000...EYWORDS=gibson

They are suppose to be importing wood from countries that are not approved by the US Government.

It seems that the general public is siding with Gibson, many for the same reason as you, Trust.

The wood was imported from India and last I heard, they were friendly to the American people............

The wood also went through Indian customs and the US customs.....

It is guitars ............Not some secret weapon...

I feel comforted knowing my tax dollars are going to enforcing another country's laws about wood stamping (or whatever it is), rather than say:

fighting terrorism
feeding the hungry
fixing that friggin' pothole down the street
paying veterans more
giving it back to me

or about 500 other things they could do with it

I know I feel safer now.

Sigh.

I'm all for more lax or selective enforcement of import laws, fewer agents, a more laid back attitude, less effort and concern to track items to their origin, etc. Paperwork? Who needs that? Correct, complete and verifiable documentation? Too much!

"You say that's a 5 ton crate of . . . lead weights for fishing? Okay, good enough for me. I was wondering why the x-ray scan wasn't quite working . . . but now I know."

Of course, I live on a sailboat somewhere in the Pacific . . . so when the bioweapon is unleashed or the suitcase nuke goes boom it won't be me suffering from U.S. Customs' failure to insure that every import related form was completely and correctly submitted in all cases, or that every item inspected (they only inspect <10% now), etc.

Balsa wood that has already traversed the system and is stored in a warehouse in Tenn. can be a very dangerous item.

It could be a swat team encounter.
