Is Your Site Being Filtered?

I had an enlightening email exchange recently with an affiliate today that I thought I would share.

He asked me to check out his new site. When I clicked his URL I got this:

I have a Firefox plugin called "FoxFilter" and it was blocking his site. Knowing his site is totally safe I added an exception, reviewed his site and then told him about it.

He did some research and found out that the word "adults" was causing him to be filtered. His text was similar to "Children and adults alike can learn..." Of course there is nothing wrong with that text.

Who knows how many sales this might have cost him?

So I encourage you to make sure to have a few plugins or get at least one of the common softwares and be sure that your site is not being filtered.

Here are some of the reasons you might be filtered:

First, it might be the text on your site, like the affiliate above. If this is the case, change your text. Simple as that

Second, it could be your server. If you are on a shared server and some other site is doing something shady, you might be punished for their wrongdoing. If that is the case, find a new host ASAP. If you can afford it, get a dedicated server.

Third, it could be something as simple as an image file name. Check your image file names and update those if needed.

Lastly, check your outgoing links. If you have links to some shady sites, you need to get rid of those.

I hope you are not being filtered but if you are, I hope these tips help.
