So I get an email today from a poor guy at Ebates who has just joined their collections department whose sole purpose at Ebates is trying to get checks from merchants who terminated them. I am speechless, where is ecomcity when I need him? |

It's refreshing to hear about this pattern. So they need to hire someone to collect from merchants who terminated them? Priceless.

A.) The number of large merchants terminating them is starting to hit their bottom line. B.) They don't really understand how affiliate marketing works. C.) They understand affiliate marketing really well and are trying to use this as another way to fully "capture" any money that might have been left on the table. |

About item B) above, I mean the schlep that called didn't even know that networks and merchants have separate T&Cs.

This ebates bean counter collections guy will have a time explaining the value-add and legitimacy of the Double dipping fees to honest merchants and their reformed AM's. Just tell him you left the money in a waterproof bag at the bottom of the pond.

Makes me wonder if they are hurting and need a revenue stream.

Drop the BHO, continue offering rebates on their site and promote the heck out of it and still make millions - while bringing rebate shoppers to merchant's sites that add incremental sales. They could do it now, even still getting away with charging lesser slotting fees - merchants rightfully just want more sales - give it to them and I bet most would forget about the past completely. Their greed keeps them stealing and manipulating and will eventually be their undoing because all trust will be vaporized and any chance at perceived value add / redemption will have been lost.
