Gaaah...just what I wanted to wake up to (NOT).

I don't know how their legislature works. It could be trouble if they like the main bill and can't separate that amendment from it...

Efforts in the US to get rid of cookies haven't worked so far, but if this passes in the EU, I'm sure all the privacy nuts will be emboldened to try again (argh).

The European Union is completely lost when it comes to privacy. They're about to allow spam now!!

A current proposal is that you must register your email addy in a nospam directory and spammers must wash their mailinglist against this directory before they send mail.
Someone lobbying the EU is of course hoping to make lots of dough from selling the info.

If you haven't registered in that directory, everyone's free to spam you.

Obviously, they have no idea of what opt-in means.
