The font of the previous theme seemed to be either stronger or bolder some how.

WTF is that quick links?
Doesn't do anything for me.
Dead -
And there's a search bar.
I'll be darned.

Quick Links should have a little menu drop down triangle to show more links. If you have any thing like NoScript running it can block it's functionality.

Another aspect of the previous theme that I miss is that I liked seeing which members were "in" or "reading" or perhaps "responding" to a thread/post in a forum/sub-forum.

The switch to Verdana is a big improvement, but I wish the font size were a bit larger (or user-configurable).
I also hadn't noticed the search bar, which is a nice time-saver (by removing one step from the search process).

I think I preferred that at the top, too.

I prefer the old look too. Finding new posts is a blur. :-(

Font change is a step ahead but, I still am uncomfortable with reading, the forum display (threads links list) is extremely hard to read and put strain on eyes.
Just do the comparison yourself. Here are links to abestweb archive.

I like the look of the posts within a thread, but listings of topics are visually very noisy with all those gradients and bold colors. A little softening of the look would go a long way.

The new theme is slick and very professional..
But the gradient hurts my eyes... there is just too much of it. I'm all for change but would like to see a white background. I think it's the gradient combined with grey & shades of blue-grey that causes the blur (one post alone has 4 shades of grey plus text).
Overall the logo & vibe is more exciting, hopefully these comments will be taken into consideration.
And where did the top-right list of "Latest threads" go..? Not new posts, but new threads (I think someone else asked already). I would visit the home page, and would scan that list in two seconds...

I agree, I hope they are working on it. The problem gets worse as you scroll quickly to find things or if you try to scan a page for a particular phrase.
Yesterday I tried over-ridding the ABW style sheets in firefox using add-ins, but it got a little more involved than I was expecting. I also searched the new profile pages to see if we could personalize the color scheme. I didn't find anything.
Hey, this is my 500th post!

I really like the new layout, but perhaps what they can do is offer different themes in the User CP so individual users can customize what the forums look like.

Bump again...
Does anyone know if the "Newest Threads" top-right sidebox will ever come back?
It was an easy way to stay on top of the latest discussions, and is not the same as the Quick Links menu item (I didn't need to click on anything).
Thanks
Thanks

I liked it as well, though you can still get it by clicking the "Unread Posts" link when you've logged in.
I did like that box on the homepage of the old theme though...

I don't know that it will back in that same spot, but with the number of people commenting about it being missing, I'm sure we can do something.

It's not quite the same. New responses to old threads are included in the unread posts. You probably have ten times as much stuff to look through on that page.
The RSS feed might be a good interim way to see the new threads?

Thanks Michael.
I suppose we all used different features of the site - that sidebox was my go-to place. Open ABW, look to the right, and either navigate away or get involved.
The new theme is very slick, but I personally miss that 5-second scanning ability, without having to click.
Thanks for possibly revisiting

Same here! I'll be very grateful if it is restored.

Yep, having a little trouble reading things here with the new gradient infused style as well. Simple is Best.

After a few days with the new design my eyes have adjusted and I can actually scroll the new post page without getting a headache. In fact, I can't even remember the old design now. Funny how fast we adjust

I will be revisiting this thread in the not distant future. If anyone has specific input or emphasis currently, looking at the changes in hindsight, about what is most important to fix or whatever... Feel free to comment and I'll prioritize as best I can.

Newest threads has just now been added back in, under what has sort of become the "activity dashboard" per se.
When you click unread posts, you'll find it above the thread list:
New Threads (threads listed by thread start date, not by activity)
Unanswered Threads (threads from past 30 days which haven't yet gotten a reply)
Featured Threads (threads hand selected by mods for quality/relevance/importance, use the button anywhere inside a thread to suggest the mods feature a thread)
