Hi there I just made my first website. I was wondering how you can get yur website to show on a search engine say google. Is there any way you can do it with out spending any money. And if so how would I go about doing it?

Welcome to the web and to ABW.
My suggestion is that you set aside as much time as you can (minumum of 2-3 hours a day of possible) and read as much as you possibly can on search engine optimization. Simply type in "search engine optimization" in Google and you are off. There are a LOT of web sites out there with a LOT of information, some of it good, some of it not so good. Anything you read that is consistent. from three or more sources, can be considered good information.
There is a ton for you to learn and it would take a week for someone to explain it all to you.
The great thing about this is that the information is free.
The down side is, it is forever changing.
Good luck to you. Don't give up, it takes time but once you are getting traffic, it is a wonderful thing.

You need to read a heck of a lot of material.

iF YOU WANT A CRASH COARSE ON seo signup for one of the evitamins or one of linkprofits programs that offer a template.. then compare what the templates creates to what you read about SEO... you will begin to get the idea.. fairly quickly...
infact there are many good templates available from merchants here at ABW... the idea is the template is a starting point from which you can build upon...
DO NOT JUST PUT UP THE TEMPLATE! you needto make changes to it.. make it the same only different in the "eye's" of the SEs.

You can start from here Search Engine Insighteverything you need to start with.
Beware, while you do the search for optimization on Google, you will find 100s of sites offering to optimze your site and guarranty to get you the top rankings for some $. My advice is stay away from them.
Or maybe wait I can give you some hints, start searching for topics like:
* What are meta tags?
* What are SEs spiders/robots?
* What are Reciprocal Links?
* How to submit your site to SEs?
I guess this will give you some start. Best of Luck!

now that you have the show on the road, so to speak, if you just wait the search engines will find you. not necessarily very quickly, though.
you can submit your url to google but some feel it is better for google to find you and index more pages than they would have, before. However, google has been acting a little funny about full indexing lately so it may not matter which way you do it.
you are used to buying hits with adwords and the like. it may be possible to get similar results directing those hits to your site instead of the merchants you sent them to before. but again, it will be an experiment.
Also, if you can get some other sites to link to you the search engines may find you more quickly.

Quick question when you build a web site does it matter is its a domain name that you pay for. example. ( www.mysite.com). or if you go with a free hosting service which has there name in the url like (mysite.tripod.com)
P.S if you could recommand a good hosting service preferably free i would be very greatful.

better to pay something and get a real domain name. also, host that domain on a different server than the people you bought the domain through. (too easy to have your domain held hostage if you deal with one place for both)
