Just the bad PR from a major news outlet could be construed as a huge victory on the part of anybody who wanted to "get back" at them.

It's a pretty stupid business decision, really. The whole idea of the free sample offer is to attract new customers. Instead they turned them away.

Starbucks is no doubt the 800 lb gorilla of the coffee biz. There are many products (countless many) that are far better quality - but these boys and girls have built a monster and you have to respect that.

I thought it was a terrible idea from the git go. But I'm sure they will rebound and come up with something else.

Of course if they win.... it could get rather interesting in what kind of warnings coupons have to carry and how that could roll onto the online business!

They could have easily put a disclaimer there "cannot be reproduced" or "distributed" or have some sort of proof before redemption.
