I don't even know if it's a logical leap, but this morning I jumped from full-time affiliate and reluctant consultant, to part-time affiliate and most-time merchant.
I'm kind of excited about it...
We all take different paths in this business - some are working towards quitting a day j*o*b, while others have made the a lot of the right choices and are now sunning themselves on the beach sipping umbrella drinks, etc. My own path has wandered all over the map, with many ups and downs, and this seems like a logical next step.
I'm not sure if it's the thrill of a new set of challenges (there are bunches of those) or only having to worry about the consequences of my own mistakes, but something feels right.
Leader, if you're reading this, I know you took a similar leap, last year was it? I hope things are still going well for you. Many others have posted planned leaps in the 2007 goals thread, and I know many posted in last year's thread too. Any other aspiring retailers out there?
Anyway, I guess this thread is for anyone and everyone who has taken, is taking or is about to take a leap of their own.
Best of luck to all of us!
Cheers!
P.S. You'll see something from me in the announcements board pretty soon, just wanted to get some warm fuzzies off my chest.

I can't resist quoting the reminder I have posted on my monitor at the moment:

Good luck Ethan.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. I would love to hear about your adventure as you go along. Anything you would like to share, would be an inspiration to many of us, considering ditching the day job.

Eathan, WTG! You're gonna be an awesome merchant and kudos for avoiding the "j*b" market! Looking forward to the details of your program!
Gotta love Judi's quote. powerful stuff unless you're jumping off a tall building unannounced

Big step for you! Good luck Eathan
I've witnessed a lot of ups and downs in affiliate marketing, but would say it's the best industry to work in and I love every minute of it.

Eathan, I have had a long mutha of a week and so I am too tired to write what I am feeling tonight. But tomorrow morning I will share what I hope will be some helpful thoughts for you as you prepare to carve another path in the entrepreneurial forest..... Hope you find it helpful.

Thanks again, everyone, and Alan, definitely. There's always more to learn and I never turn down an opportunity to learn it.
There was a quote I used to keep on my wall door in the early days.
"In a time of change, it is learners who inherit the future, the learned find themselves equipped to live only in a world that no longer exists." Eric Hofer
That always seemed appropriate to the Internet, especially the start-ups I was involved with. Still fits today. Can't get complacent and think you know it all or you get swepped aside.

William Blake said "Plow over the bones of the dead."
That rings true more than ever in the Internet marketing space. Sit still too long....LOOK OUT!!!
Best of luck with your new endeavor

As long as we're throwing around the inspiration / motivation quotes, this is one I think about when everything is going wrong and changing so fast it seems I can't learn it all soon enough:
I can't change the wind, but I can adjust my sails.

All the best Ethan...
I am sure that a few people here will and should be able to help, Alan, Leader or myself.

All kinds of good quotes in this thread. Somebody needs to jump on making a 365 days of affiliate marketing inspiration calendar...
Day 1: There are better things to lose yourself in than work...
Thanks again all!
Eric, any luck with fitting more hours in a day? That's the one that always gets me, and oddly enough, quitting my job a few years ago didn't help. I need to just leave my calendar on day 1...

I just saw this thread.
It was, let's see...
*checks server for domain setup date*
May 2005 when I put the domain on the server. So I'd put it at 2-4 weeks after that for a live date. Probably another month or 2 before any SE would admit I existed, at least not without me paying them to (via PPC)...

Glad to hear it! That's a lot of what I'm looking for with this project.
I know I could make a lot more money doing something else, but I wouldn't enjoy it half as much. So long as we can do enough sales to keep my wife enthusiastic about all this inventory crowding us out of the house, I won't be complaining.
