Time for OnTop to open the kimono a bit and let us know who they are or why they are interested in the AM business. The questions seem like research for a project or perhaps a thesis, or maybe a book. It seems more than just someone curious about the waters before jumping in. However, the style of questioning does not seem all that academic or business-like.

So who is OnTop?

I can remember once or twice people coming in and questioning us for thesis/projects/etc but as I recall they were always upfront and let us know what they were doing.

So ... who is ontop?

Yup, just after 9am now. I wake up when everybody finishes work in the states. Makes for a hard time when I need to call companies in the US

It's called being responsive to requests made by multiple members. What an Administrator of a Board does.

Looks like we're neighbors onTop. Where in Taipei are you? I'm down around the Houshanpi station.

My answer... Goodbye! Plain and simple!

Now that's what you call responsive!

Ah what a short, sweet relationship we had OnTop.

You moved into an apartment upstairs, and came down to borrow a cup of sugar on Monday. I gladly shared what I had.

On Tuesday you stopped by to see if I might have a light bulb. No problem, here's one so you have some light in your apartment.

On Wednesday it was a windshield wiper scraper to get the ice off your car. I just so happened to have a spare and lent it to you.

Thursday came and you knocked on my door asking for shampoo. A little bit of a personal request, but I gave you my extra bottle - and broadly hinted that I might like to come up and see your new place sometime. No response though.

Friday you wanted to know if I had any deck furniture for your balcony, and I said enough was enough. Either invite me up, take my family out to dinner some evening, or bring me down a piece of the cake you baked with my sugar. But instead you said I wasn't welcome to any of the above.

Saturday I went upstairs and knocked on your apartment door. I tried the knob and looked inside. The place was bare. You were never my neighbor after all. That's pretty low. In fact, that's pretty scummy. I guess I'm glad you're not my neighbor anyway.

I really do try to live by the tagline I have below. But when I get burned by self-centered jerks it really makes me want to pull back and be more selfish. If you want to know why people aren't more forthcoming with help in the future, look in the mirror to understand why.

Good Look4!

Ok, that was quick.

Who did it? Was it all the counter-questions or Mr Administrator that got to him? LOL

It may be true, for all I know,
It sounds so gol-darned queer;
I hate like Hell to doubt your word,
but B.S. don't go here.

OnTop, if you're still lurking here there's one piece of information that's critical here, and which has neither been asked for or volunteered:

Why is identifying yourself in a professional forum a problem?

If you have a legitimate reason for maintaining a level of secrecy outside of the social norms here, it would help for you to share it.

I've participated in a lot of online communities since literally before the web was invented (I was a GENIE and a CompuServer customer, if any of you remember those <g>). I've always appreciated those venues which require identification because they tend to have a more professional tone overall than those which encourage secrecy.

I have no judgement about your character at this time one way or another, but I do believe it's in everyone's interest -- yours included -- to at least explain why adhering to a long-held social convention here will not work in your case.
