So... er... with this new wonderful support system...

how long after the stated "one business" day should an affiliate actually have to wait for a response?

I count 17 days so far

{*}Montgomery Ward

We are having a very hard time figuring out what the merchants we want to work with want from us. We aren't pornographic and we have a very nice website, great niche and synergistic business model. So we are hurt AND disappointed when we get a rejection a nanosecond later. We are even more hurt when we don't hear back when trying to reach affiliate managers. But now we are mystified because we understand we were rejected by Montgomery Ward. But MW shows up on our email list with an asterisk. But when we search for MW in LinkShare - nothing comes up. What does it all mean??

Thanks,
BTshoes

"with an asterisk." It means deactivated, gone or on hold

Yes, they are. I checked my own merchant list and they are listed as deactivated.

You are getting instant automatic rejections from merchants who have established criteria (traffic level, geography, and marketing channel [blog, ppc, coupon, etc.] among others) that your site does not meet. If you haven't identified your site in the LinkShare profile with compatible parameters for that merchant, the system will send you an automatic temporary rejection notice.

Don't be hurt - contact the program manager and ask them to specifically review the site you are planning to use to market their product or service. Show them exactly where on the site their placement will go. Give them some sense of your plan, reach, and scope. I would guess that you'll get at least 50% of those programs to accept you after that. Also, give them time to respond - many large programs get 100's of approval requests a day.

What you shouldn't do (and I'm not saying you are... I've just gotten a lot of this lately) is send a reply to the automatic rejection that is hostile, dismissive, or otherwise unprofessional. That's a great way to get anything from a zero response to a permanent block from their program.

It would be nice if some of the merchants auto approved affiliates, nothing worse than joining a network specifically for one affiliate only to find out you have been auto rejected
