Rock/Creek

Was just going through some of my links, and I clicked on a kayak that was out of stock.

I was redirected to the Manufacturer page, and got a pop up that said: "We're sorry, but what you are looking for is out of stock, so you've been redirected to the category page..."

Nice touch.

With Kayaks, I think the customer will probably look elsewhere, but it makes me comfortable in sending customers for less "exact" purchases there. No dead ends on the site.

Great point and I wish all merchants would do that. I have constant complaints in Q4 about a clearance site. If the product is out of stock you get a 404 error and it is several clicks to get back to the category page.

I couldn't figure out what the title of the thread had to do with the content so I just made something up. It's "between a rock and a wet place."

No I dunno what that means.

Hey, I'm bored, it's Sunday, the game's not on until 4pm, and the weather's yucky. Either somebody entertains me or I gotta do it myself.

LOL. Sorry Rhea. The name of the merchant is RockCreek, but the way they have their logo, I always end up adding a slash.

Thanks, Kevin.

Why is reality always so much less interesting than the $#!+ I make up?

Kevin, glad you liked our redirects! I thought it was kind of rude to show a guest an ugly 404 page just because we didn't have stock in something (which is usually temporary until we get a re-order in stock), so we created that system.

Also we are Rock/Creek, it just doesn't translate in some online programs so it ends up showing up as RockCreek often. We've been in business over 20 years, so the slash came in before the Web existed and we still use it.

I missed this thread the first time around, but I'm glad to see a merchant who has implemented something like this. I've suggested it numerous times to other merchants (either linking/redirecting to a category, or suggesting other items that ARE in stock), but very few do it. Good job!

I do it on one of my affiliate sites. If a product is discontinued or I can't find an affiliate source for it, I dynamically list several similar products that the consumer would likely be interested in.

Thumbs up

Mark Glad you're checking in with ABW!

I can safely speak very highly of Mark and team. Their program is exceptional, growing and you'll be seeing a lot more of them soon enough.

Definitely take a serious look at this program folks..

Yeah. Mark does a great job with the website design and user-ability. I like to show it off to my friends and family. "That's right. I work for them," Kind of thing.
