So Google Ventures invested into Whale Shark Media (who owns Retailmenot.com) recently does this mean down the line Retailmenot.com could become "Coupons/Deals" under Google's network? This could affect many coupon sites indexed in Google's search engine and put Retailmenot.com as the #1 results in every coupon/deal search result. Thoughts?

It's more likely that Google will just scoop up the technology, and add it to their own expanding "top of the fold" apps.. they have already turned themselves into an affiliate, now competing with their own ad-buying clients.

I wonder what will happen to their ad revenue when they kill off the competition?

Google has been aggressively expanding their suite of "publisher" properties - the core search engine business appears to be secondary now. It's ironic that none of their properties appear to have original content, or unique ideas.

Not only is Retailmenot ranking #1 for every query with "coupons" in it, they have the balls to claim they have coupons for every website including Abestweb and the Whitehouse.

ABestWeb Coupon Codes http://www.retailmenot.com/view/abestweb.com
couponcabin.com Coupon Codes http://www.retailmenot.com/view/couponcabin.com
Whitehouse.gov http://www.retailmenot.com/view/whitehouse.gov

President George W. Bush Coupon Codes

Official White House site presents issue positions, news, Cabinet, appointments, offices and major speeches. Includes biography, video tour and photo essays.

Google doesn't penalize for not knowing who the president is?????

Everything you read from Google engineers is a LIE.

Original content: NO Retailmenot stealing content is well documented on this forum.

Working content: NO

Google just keeps funneling the money into its coffers.

If you think Google is being ridiculous, give these queries negative feedback.

It's at the very bottom of the search result page.

And tell other affiliates to do the same.

And file an FTC complaint if you're really serious.

There are allot of coupon websites out there, and some of them are spam and only get thousands of Indian hits...they also don't have a PR

The value that some smaller websites have is focusing on one niche like -shoes or books is great...

The other and most important is the "value" they add is making an income legal online and not following in the footsteps of sites who have a history of a bad rep. They also bring value by feeding their family with the income and not preying on new affiliates with 900.00 ebook courses to wealth.

Nothing wrong with competition or this would not be Marketing.

The problem is not with coupon websites.. it's with the majority who don't use them- untapped market.... market that :P
