I've noticed this going on for a while, mostly because of the analytics service I use. I'd say easily 50% of my google traffic comes with no keywords. Annoying to say the least.

When you're reading on this and seeing percentages, please have a close look at the context. For example, for a manufacturing website I manage for my main job, 3% of my total traffic is affected by this so far (low, because of the vertical).

However, a whopping 20% of my Google Organic referrals are impacted.

Here is Google's official announcement on defaulting to SSL search to make online search more secure.

They said that this should only affect 10% of statistics in the analytics but much higher values were reported by most users (over 20%). This is rolling out to users over the course of several weeks, which means the percentages would likely get higher.

Of course.... "For paid advertisers... Tracking is not affected".
