I am new here, so be gentle<IMG src=http://www.abestweb.com/ubb/icons/icon7.gif>

Has anyone tried the Google Ad Words? If so, what kind of clickthrough rate did you get? I'm thinking we'd need at least 4% to make a profit, but I don't know if that's doable, even in the top spot. I know on PPCs we get about a 10% clickthrough rate (roughly), but that's just regular listings, not ones off to the right.

Any thoughts?

hershey,

Welcome! <IMG src=http://www.abestweb.com/smilies/welcome.gif>

Although I have never tried them myself ... I have read *many* times that they are useless and a waste, I am sure our memberbase will inform you with their experiences.

hershey, I blew through $85 in two weeks, generating a whopping 7 hits/0 sales with adwords from google. Not saying it won't work for you, but you have to be -VERY- careful about your ad. Make sure the ad is focused on specific items and you might do well. I focused on a general topic, just to draw people into my site, and took a shellacking. From what I have read, people have better luck purchasing PPC from places like www.findwhat.com and www.kanoodle.com, etc. In this way, you only get charged when an individual clicks onto your site, instead of being charged for 'impressions'.

I did read somewhere, though, that people who have adword campaigns with google tend to rank higher, though, so there might be other, less obvious advantages to having an ongoing adword campaign. Not sure about that, though.

Thanks, everyone, for your input. I did open a $5 account last night and tried very specific keywords. So, far, we have a 7% clickthrough rate, which is higher than I expected. Of course, it's too early to tell if this will continue at that rate. And if anything will then convert.

We test each ads CTR.
They will varry based on focus - I think.
Put in 20 keywords.
Wait 24 to 48 hour and pull down the ones that get a low CTR
That way you can control your CTR to the target % you need for your ROI
