Were your pages among the Billion?
http://apnews.myway.com//article/200...D80PABL80.html
By MICHAEL LIEDTKE
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Online search engine leader Google Inc. added an additional 1 billion pages to its Web index Tuesday, increasing its breadth by about one-third as it girds for tougher competition from Yahoo! Inc. and Microsoft Corp. (MSFT)
Google's search engine now spans 4.28 billion Web pages, up from 3.3 billion pages earlier this week. The Mountain View, Calif.-based company also said it has enlarged its index of Web images to 880 million, up from slightly more than 400 million.

 esoteric site owners !!!
< meta name = "NOT ESOTERIC" content = "TRUE" >
The Mountain View, Calif., firm's "tens of thousands" of computers crawl the Web often to find pages to add. To grow the index, Google couldn't add more PC power, for fear of crashing certain Web sites; instead, it formed a secondary index.
"The searches that retrieve millions of results go into the main index; the more esoteric ones go into the second one," Brin says.
ESOTERIC:
Designed for, and understood by, the specially initiated alone; not communicated, or not intelligible, to the general body of followers; private; interior; acroamatic; -- said of the private and more recondite instructions and doctrines of philosophers. ADDED and can't convert 1:100

No wonder they added a billion pages. Just think how many domains have datafeeds running similar offers from the same merchants.... but sooner or later, duplication will be diminished or erased.

Hmmm...sounds like Google is beginning to feel the heat of competition! The bottom line is, they must return relevant results, or they will drop like a lead balloon. End users don't care if a site pays for placement, or advertises. They just want good search results.
I hope Google got the message. Some of the others need to pay attention as well. Just because a site can afford to advertise, doesn't mean it's worthy.

I think google wanted to steal the thunder of yahoo switching the search results from google technology to their own. Not a bad idea for them - but they have to keep the relevance high, a lot more results may dilute some terms a bit...
