I'm thinking about running a CPM banner affiliate program on Shareasale.com but I don't know $150/month plus 20% of what I pay per affiliate. What if I don't get any affiliates, am I still out $150? Any other deals, offers? Thanks!

Do you think CPM is really a good idea?

The pay on the affiliate program would be very low(20cents), also I would require that the banner must be within the top 500 pixels, it would also get my name out! Also I would makey money from every click?

So you just want the branding?
CPC could probably do the same thing.

I've seen lower at clickxchange (1 cent CPM).

Correct me if I am wrong but the $150 is a one-time startup fee, not monthly.

Do you really think anybody would join at 1 cent per CPM? I think I would get at least 100 affiliates at 20 cents.
$150 is a start-up fee?

1 cent CPM; No Way.
1 cent per click; No Problem.

No one would join at 20 cents per CPM? What is a good price that you would join at? I can't do per click, because I wouldn't make money lose money!

Nathan,
CPC is crap and full of malarkey!
CPM will result in beans (result wise) even at $10.00!
CPA/ CPL is the way to go! Work on that angle ... build a business model that generates cash (deposits) and reinvest that cash into other advertising and build it step by step, rung by rung.

I would take the 20 cents CPM.
BUT....
As long as there is a deceptive sales pitch (back to the "80%" thing again) I wouldn't even THINK about presenting that to my site's visitors.
Overture and Google can claim to reach a large percentage of internet users, because THEY DO.
If you aren't providing search feeds to a major SE, you'll have a very hard time separating potential customers from their money.
I'm not trying to disparage you; as I said before: when you can demonstrate that you can deliver results, I'll whip my Visa card out for you.

I didn't say that, I said "I" wouldn't join for 20 cents CPM but I'm sure others would. It would take .50 - 1.00 for me to join a CPM deal.

If Haiko says this is the way to go then you can't argue with that.

First, just to clarify...
The $150 is a setup fee, not a monthly fee. We currently do not have a monthly fee. The 20% transaction fee is based on what you payout to an affiliate...so for a particular transaction, if you pay $1.00 to the affiliate, you pay .20 to us, for a total of $1.20 on that transaction. To my knowledge, this is the lowest transaction fee around.
The whole pricing thing can be found at www.shareasale.com/pricing.cfm
Second, not only do I agree with Haiko about CPL/ CPS/ CPA but I agree so much with him that we do not even offer CPM deals on the network. It is purely a results based network, so your option is paying per lead/sale/click. In your case, I would suggest a pay per sale program to generate more listings on your search engine, and perhaps a PPC for search boxes.
Affiliate marketing is designed to take the guesswork out of mass advertising. If you can generate an idea for a program that can allow you to take advantage of it, thats what I would suggest...
If you have any questions...please just let me know...
