Will adding a Yahoo/Google search box to website help SEO?
Do any of you place yahoo/google search boxes on your websites to help with SEO or indexing?

If so, does it tend to help you much at all?

    Thanks!

Done it on a couple of sites and found no SEO advantage, but Google (don't know about Yahoo) pays for search clicks through your adSense account.

I think I did hear that because they have to index your site to have a search box - at a minimum your site is going to be indexed quicker than manual submission.

Don't know if that's fact or fiction though.

Maybe indexed quicker, but I haven't seen, and do not believe, it would help with SEO.

I don't think using the search box will help spidering, indexing or ranking at all.

    It didn't help me.

All it did was make a leak from your site to your competitors' sites.

Haven't seen it help either. Was having problems with MSN fully indexing one of my sites and emailed them saying I would love to use their search box on my site (not really) but they first need to index it. Didn't work

Not to go off-topic, but it seems generally that MSN takes longer to index new sites than G or Y.

With a larger site I would include Google search just because it's so darn good at finding relevant results. That, to me, is SEO. The goal of SEO is to help searchers find more relevant pages and documents on my site, so if it means my visitors are more likely to get what they want then I'd do it.

Yahoo IMO still has a long way to go to match Google in that regard, still too many duds in the SERPs.

But yeah, I don't think it will help increase your ranking for keywords or improve traffic, it will just help visitors who are already on your site.

I am 99% sure adding one of those boxes does not help with SEO.

Invest your time in a good sitemap, remember ot put it in the robots.txt file for autodiscovery and to notify Google through Google Webmaster tools!

Just because they know about pages doesn't necessarily mean they'll visibly include them in the index.
