In the last few days I have received 4 offers from different people offering to pay for text links on my websites - I must have missed something, is there a new push on, out there for getting links=pagerank??

    Um Yeah

I haven't been approached like you were but I know there are a lot of people out there that got killed on this last google downgrade and things are probably going to get a lot worse on the next one. Maybe a new business is in the works with one way high pr links.

'Downgrade' is the more appropriate name I've heard for this shuffle so far...

And who's complaining if FAST or Inktomi grab a bit of the market

Don't buy links is all I say to you, it'll be money in the trash soon.

Speaking of Fast I'm seeing a lot of spidering activity from them lately.

I know I'm sticking my nose in where it doesn't belong, but we continue to see steady traffic from Google, following the trend line we've seen for some time. Our homepage PR bumped up one notch about a month or two ago, and interior pages remain steady. Maybe it's a fluke, maybe we flew in under the radar, I don't know. But we haven't seen the fallout many people are reporting from the recent Google update.

Just saw an interview about them on CNN, suggesting they were changing accounting systems in preparation for an IPO.

    EC:
I told my fellow co-workers a month ago that I believed Google was headed toward an IPO in the next 15 months, because the founders would eventually want to cash in. The guise will be that Google needs an infusion of cash to continue growing, but the reality of public ownership will forever change life at Google and for those who feel its impact.

    From C-Net
"Brin explained that competitors would gain insight on Google's finances. He added that going public could cause the company to focus too closely on short-term financial concerns and distract employees who watch the day-to-day movements of the stock.

"The distraction, I think, is a problem (as well as) having to deal with numbers on a quarterly basis," Brin said.

Under the Wall Street microscope, Google also might have to cut back on the many perquisites it provides employees, such as free lunch and dinner."

We all know there is no such thing as a free lunch [or dinner]!
