Not exactly the longest book I've ever read but "Children Of The Dust" by Louise Lawrence will always be my favorite. Just couldn't put that one down.

I used to read a comic called "Preacher" that wasn't exactly for kids and young teenagers. Written by Garth Ennis and I highly recommend geting your hands on the graphic novels.

Ok, so what’s with the best of the best lists?
For me: The Sun Also Rises (I think I lived it)
Also: For Whom the Bell Tolls
    And anything else by Hemmingway

Also It Can’t Happen Here by Sinclair Lewis
    Most Twain and Faulkner
On a more pop lit bent I like early Stephen King especially The Stand

    1984 - George Orwell
    Fahrenheit 451 - Ray Bradbury

    Josephus Trilogy - Lion Feuchtwanger
    The Invincible - Stanislav Lem
His Master's Voice - Stanislav Lem

I could add some more german books by Gert Prokop, Juergen Kuczynski or Rainer Fuhrmann which were never translated to english (as far
    as I know).

Also worth mentioning are the childrens books by Alexander Wolkow, Karl May (Winnetou) and J.K.Rowling (Harry Potter)

The Chronicles of Narnia are always going to be up there with the best books of all time.
My favourite book is Watchers by Dean Koontz. It made me laugh and cry on the same page. Brilliant author.
    Wuthering Heights is a classic
