Unhappy Rugs USA another commission reduction 7% to 5%
Just received this message from Rugs USA:

    Dear Affiliate -

I am writing to inform you that effective 2/1/2008 commissions on our program will be changed to 5%.

As the dollar weakness we are finding it more difficult to maintain the same margins.

I thank you all for your support.

It isn't very motivating. If I were RugsUSA, I'd adjust prices instead of commissions.

I saw this yesterday too. If I were RugsUSA, I would do all possible to keep the 7% in there at least somewhere (make it achievable if you reach a certain amount in gross monthly sales, for example).

They were at 10% 2 years ago I think and had a good OPM (ARC), then dropped to 7% last year and went OPMless, now this move to 5%. Bad trend, sad to see it.

It is sad to see when this happens, and seldomly does this translate into progress and growth of an affiliate program.

That's what I tell a few that often mention lowering commissions. Customers will still buy from you if you have great products that now cost a few dollars more but good customer service and ship on time, but affiliates will not promote yours if you drastically cut commissions you then loose both avenues.

There's lots of margin in rugs, so I'd guess this gets back to whether his program is being managed properly to ensure a healthy percentage of the affiliate orders are incremental. If so though, dropping comms across the board doesn't address that at all. That's the "sad" part for me.

Hmm, during economic downturns, it's generally not wise to reduce your sales force by irritating them. Especially when that sales force is commission only. I'm seriously looking at their competitors now.

I guessed they missed marketing 101?

They could have increased the selling price to cover this instead.

There are only so many companies that might be affected by the weakness of the dollar. Rugs are not what would have immediately come to my mind...

I guess wool comes predominantly from overseas and synthetics might be somewhat affected by the price of oil in a minor way. But being American (right?) they'll have dibs on cheap cotton. In general the textile industry doesn't tend to see dramatic changes.

But yeah - if they aren't willing to spend money to make money then, goodbye, they are the weakest link.

I think that if they are so worried about the decreasing dollar, that they should do away with there have you seen this rug anywhere else for less box and if you have tell us where and save 20% immediately. All the customer has to do is type any rug sites address and they immediately send out an email with a 20% off coupon and a link back to there site. with no affiliate cookies. anybody want to buy An area rug site already setup.

I don't know what to say about this but I am also not happy in EU with the EUR/USD trend. But 5% is far away from generous commission.

In response I have just deleted all links to them.
Can you please recommend any other good converting Rugs affiliate program?

    Thanks!

Csnrugs carries all the same rugs that Rugsusa carries. They also offer a 10% commission. We have advertised for them before and am thinking about them again.

Yes, but what is the difference? They should already have the cookie installed with your afill id if they previously came through your link. Am I right or am I missing something about the cookie technology of SAS?

I have three ShareASale merchants that sell rugs (commission range: 8% - 10%; cookies range: 30 days - never expire). You may find widgets for them here.

It seems that the merchants being managed here with rugs available would be wise to create incentive threads in their respective forums to bring attention to where there are rugs to promote.

Yes you did, it was a good announcement too. But I'm giggling a bit at the visual of the merchants or OPM's circling the corpse!! LOL.

As far as dollar strength, when the dollar weakens against other currencies, cost of goods purchased offshore indeed can and do increase. The problem here is that the merchant did not raise the retail a couple percent, choosing instead to reduce rewards to the sales force. Tre-Ouch!!~
