    Visited My First Porn Site
I didn't mean to. But I kept seeing this site in my logs and was curious. The url was quite innocent sounding and seemed related to my site's topic. Turned out to be a porn blog spammer, but wow I couldn't leave the site, because it kept giving me this popup. Finally had to turn off my computer.

I now understand better the discussion about the fake live chat window in another thread and it's implications. I do have bad taste in my mouth for such tactics, much more so than before my morning experience. As a consumer, any site employing a similar tactic would get none of my business. Deep down I would assume they are up to something.

Your FIRST porn site??????? Geez, lemme forward you my private bookmarks LOLOL

Wait until you get to a porn site and click it off, only to have it pop open 5 other porn sites first. You click one of those off, and it too pops open 5 other sites. Within minutes, you have about 50 open windows to sites you never visited.

Many of these sites will even force downloads on to your computer w/o asking your permission either.

These scumbags plant that crap on your HDD permanently without you having any way to stop it.

I used to get rid of a few thousand of these jerks nearly every month on another forum I ran.....

I could tell you stories that'll make you want to park your computer forever....

If your not familiar wth the name, it is best to move on.

But aren't you supposed to get a "pop up" when you visit those types of sites.

You should probably run your virus scan just in case the site downloaded something on your computer.

No. While sites often do have a pop up, many do not. In fact roughly 70% of the dozens of porn sites I screen for are redirects. They start off as something like jersey nets dot com and wind up redirecting you to some crap that shows grown men raping 7 year old kids from behind ~ Still wearing they neck tie. The world is chock full of bad guys. Lemme tell ya.

It really does not help me to report these clowns the fed's {Even though I do anyway}cuz for me the damage is already done. Again, many of these redirects forcibly load a xxx movie on your computer and it often does not ask for "cancel or allow". Crappy but true.

Policing a server is nasty work. you can often get 83 of these bozo's per day on a slow day. Sunday is normally not over 20 in my case.

When you do see this trojan horse infecting your computer, there is usually one remedy for it, unplug that thing right in the middle of the download BEFORE it completes.

FYI: Scumbags don't want you to know that they are doing this crap to you. They don't get paid as much if you turn it off first.

Never think that these crap purveyors are going to act in your best interest by giving you some type of parental advisory warning or whatever. That is simply not always the case.

Any way I've flamed the these bums far more than Haiko will allow me to. So I'll let it alone for awhile.

Aunt Lily - I laughed out loud when I saw the title of this post. It reminded me of the first time my wife caught me when (I SWEAR) I was just doing some basic searching and next thing you know I was in the gates of XXX thinking I will never be able to get out no matter how many times I click on the little red box with an x in it! She just gave me "the look" when I said it was MY FIRST TIME. That was in 1998. Never been back to one ever again! ( I SWEAR ......ok....maybe I better not swear to that one)

Aunt Lily, a quick way to close a page giving you trouble is CTRL+w, on windows anyway if that's what you're using.

And as usual, the answer - largely - is Firefox. I haven't had a problem with pop ups like that in about five years. Switching to a Mac helped a lot, too.

You know what is even worse - my daughter name - a very unique spelling of Lisa is registered as a porn site. I had to have a discussion about what she saw when she decided to visit 'her' domain one day.

A good antivirus, anti-spyware, and popup blocker ought to be on your computer, and they will block much of that sort of thing.

I don't think browser abuse is limited to porn sites. Just look at the number of sites that still try to foist popups on you, or set tracking cookies.

If you find sites can too easily abuse your browser, it may be time to ditch IE and use Firefox. Built-in popup blocking, and hundreds of free add-ons for everything from ad blocking to cookie management.

I'm thinking that once the window is open in your browser, you have, in fact, visited.

I generally never look at these logspam pages anymore. But if I Have to look, _ I just type it into google and look at the cached page. No cached page? use a proxy. Usually these aren't even real links. (you wasted your time).
