That's interesting. But Affiliate marketing is never going to go away. Like said"Affiliate Marketing in my opinion is the back bone of the internet"!

Yeah, this whole computer thing is just a passing fad.

Eventually it will be just another dead gimmick on a shelf somewhere like the airplane and television.

Affiliates are kind of like real estate agents. There always homes to sell and people who buy these homes. Only on the Internet, you can almost sell anything.

Now, there are merchants who, at the end, want to stop paying affiliates the comissions by retaining the customers themselves. But, they first want to build their customer base via affiliates, with their agressive AMs, acting as "Business Developer" not as "Affiliate Manager" (in their words) and "partnership" strategies. That's a threat to affiliates and they need find a solution to this like Ebates did, but it's also a long shot for merchants.

Although the web is worldwide reachable - despite of countries which have censorship like Australia, France etc. - the globalisation has stopped with the GW II and I am very pessimistic that it will go on further. The affiliation on the web is also not yet globalized. It is only regional, but often this is not the fault of the affiliates but the fault of conservative, anxious merchants. Those merchant are going to be washed up but not the affiliates. We are always able to sell stuff - each stuff - worldwide.

Well in the past week I have had three personal direct approaches from AM's wanting me to feature their sites. We are a niche site and these were closely related to our content. The really good news is that I spoke to the AM of our main affiliate program who we have been loyal to for the last 3 years. They have agreed to improve our earning rate - no strings attached. So not surprisingly I have agreed to keep my loyalty unchanged.

It is nice to be wanted!

The number of affiliates decreases as they lock up those who also use spamm as their weapon of choice.
