    Cool Question / Poll
I have been looking at upgrading my own small private Millionaire Real Estate Group form and wanted to know what everyone likes the best?

Either phpBB2 or phpBB3 (Free download)

    OR

VBulletin (yes I know it cost only $160 which is no big deal)

Which is the best forum platform and why?

    Hey dude.

I liked the phpBB forum lay out in general. It worked pretty good. While I cannot offer you any advice on #2 or #3, I do want to let you know that the PHPBB is one of the most spammed formats on the web.

I admin a few forums/ sites and when I moved up from Mod to Admin, I got the living shit kicked out of me by the jerks and crap ware.

This will be my only suggestion so as not to degrade the post or cause hard feelings, However might I suggest that you consider another format ?

PHPBB is in fact a nice layout. There are others though.

Also, you may wish to contact Machiner @ "machiner" <machiner@debiantutorials.org> for ideas on how to get this in a different format .......

    Dude, I hope this helps.

phpBB is also one of the most hacked forums out there.

smf forums are good if you are looking for a free solution. vBulletin is a good choice also.

Moving to Midnight Cafe, since this isn't a site review, it shouldn't be in the Site Review forum.

I second the nomination for SMF. Very good software, and not as insecure as phpBB.

I like SMF and V.Bulletin. PHPBB2/3 is a pain to customize. I think it is a bit outdated.

My appoligies if I posted under the wrong topic and title, thank you so much for talking the time to move it and re-write the title.

I see SMF is well liked, never heard of it, so I will have to google it to read up on it.

I think the reason I may have chosen phpbb2 for my Real Estate forum, is I thought since it was free - just maybe more averarge folks were used to using it and might find the group more "user friendly".

I just google things like "Forums" and saw different formats being used and wondered if a Poll was taken, what forum would get the most votes as the "Best".

Thanks so much for all the feedback up to this point and I would love to know what others think or If they second any of the advice given?

    Thumbs up vBulletin
    Morning,

I decided upon vbulletin for my forum for several reasons:

Tons of mods are available at http://www.vbulletin.org

There's a free skin you can get at http://www.vbadvanced.com called CMPS that lets you wrap everything in your forum with whatever page structure you like.

You can SEO it to your heart's content.

And the developer forum is very friendly and will take their time to help out as well, even if you ask inane questions (I don't know PHP so mine were really elementary).

Oh, and you can include a free arcade in it too.

    Barbara

I used to be a IPB fan in the past, but it seems that vBulletin is really catching up.
