    ValueClick settles with the FTC
ValueClick, Inc. settled with the Federal Trade Commission today. The online marketing company agreed to a settlement payment of $2.9 million in the probe of its lead generation practices but ValueClick did not concede that it violated any laws.

That also seems like a pretty stiff payment to make a "probe" go away if no laws were broken. Must be some kind of message in there somewhere.

The brief mention of "macroeconomics" in that short article seems to imply a knowledge that "something" was going on, is going on, and will (undoubtedly) continue to go on.

So, now about recouping that 2.9 mil.....

    Haiko,

not to lessen the importance of this but they said Value click not CJ..."the company and the Commission" i think they mean the FTC and not CJ

I was guessing it was Hi-speed spammers (who i know used to sell email addies by the millions to an old boss of mine) that were at fault and it took a quick search to find this link...http://phx.corporate-ir.net/phoenix....cle&ID=1107996

Your 100% correct, my apologies for any confusion.

I'll edit the title right away.

The article says that they had an 18m profit for Q4. There is no fiscal reason that says they need to claw anything back from anyone to pay the price of their malfeasance.

CJ is a license to print money. Hopefully this fine is a wake up call for the company to stop burdening the jewel that they own with all of these parasites and spam operations they keep doing in the background.

Look at GOOG! VCLK would be ten times larger than they are today, except that at every turn of the game, the monkeys in charge would turn toward an evil tactic like parasite ware or Spam.

when I was a VC publisher. I remember one of their reps telling me that they loved working with adware companies because they are the ones that made them the most money.

Well, adware programs can actually produce quality leads and sales, unlike the incentive crap that they're running.
