    Summary of findings for tigerdirect.com:

    * Page/keyword targeting: 8 keystring/advertisement combinations found, according to direct analysis of Gator configuration files.

Special note: These results suggest that Gator used to target ads at tigerdirect.com but currently does not do so.

Naw tiger's not being targeted, apparently...

That is what I mentionned in another thread: we should send parasites as much traffic as we can.

Pardon my ignorance, but what does being "targeted" by Gator mean? We have had a strict anti-parasite policy from the beginning and have turned down a number of "big name" parasites.

If this means that Gator has slipped past my radar, then I'd like to boot them ASAP.

What it means is that Gator is advertising your competitors on popups over your site.

    Paul,

It means that when customer visit your site, Oreck.com, and if they had downloaded any Gator software (all of them are free) into their computer, a pop-up ad over your web page, and will try to change the customer's mind to buy, say, Bissel vacuum cleaners from another store, along with a coupon or saving offer to entice the visitor, rather than buying an Oreck right there.

This is one reason why this kind of information should not be posted in the public. Too many parasites are learning too much from ABW.

    Thanks for the headsup, SamBay.

That sounds like a fun project for an Oreck developer.

Parasites are aptly nameed, aren't they?

    Paul,

Maybe I missed something, but doesn't gator popping up competitor's ads on your site mean a fun project for your attorney's, and not your developer?

Interesting how affiliates AND merchants are getting screwed.

Want to know something else interesting Paul? When merchants who haven't booted Gator or any of the other BHO's out of their program, and they pay to advertise somewhere, whether it is a listing at Google or just a simple banner ad at msnbc.com, and a visitor who has Gator clicks on their ad - boom. The merchant just paid for the ad, and a commission to the Gator. Talk about eroding margins.

    Sorry, got all excited there.

Gator is an amazing example of what happens when you have a pure play advertising mindset and the ethics of the common Ad-Whore wank at the helm. Orick should try calling Gator and WhenU and find out what the monthly protection fee is to keep their popup incent advertising off your domain. Either that or get your webmaster to program a BHO detection script on your pages or hangout a "Competitors Welcomed Here" sign on your main page.

    Mike & Charlie ...

If they won't adopt and feed a bird ..flip them one! BBQ some Gator and remember to flush WhenU..

Please have your lawyers look into this and NOT your developer. You all are so concerned about your "trademark" and you let ads for Hoover vacuum cleaners on your site?

(hoover is just an example, I do not know what ads are really on your site)

Thanks for the insights. Here I thought I was doing due diligence just by making sure that none of the parasites were participating in our program.

It would make perfect sense to have some tests run to see what kind of impact Oreck's competition sleeping with parasites is having.

I think I'll get this issue in front of both a developer (testing) and an attorney (lawyering).
