500 Posts---A gift inside for tired eyes
500 posts. Wow, that went fast! I figured I would take some time and throw a gift out there since others have helped me here.

It is FREE and doesn't require any registration.

The name of the program is ZoomIt.

    It does many useful things:

Zooms in to anything showing on your screen, not just within your browser. To fire it up, just hit CTRL and 1. To exit, just do the same again, or hit escape, or click the right mouse button.

Use the mouse wheel or up and down arrow keys to control zoom factor.

    Sample zoom:

Now, that is just the beginning of what makes this free app so cool. Here are some more advanced features:

It can draw shapes. You can choose the colors for the shapes via the keyboard.

What??? You want more? OK, well there is more. While in drawing mode, just hit "t" to type.

The final feature is a break timer. We can all use one of those. It can be set to any time you want and also play whatever .wav file you want to alert you to get back to work.

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this little look into a handy little app.

    You can download ZoomIt here.

Also, the screen capture software I used is Screenhunter. If you want to see what that is all about, take a look here.

Thanks everyone for helping me here or there during my first few months at ABW. It wasn't very long before I felt like I was part of the gang. It really is something special we have going here and although I am somewhat new to the board, I will not be just a flash in the pan. I hope my posts so far have been both interesting and informative.

    Here's to the next 500!

PS: If you're not too busy, I could use your vote here. It took a lot for my wife to agree to the posting of that pic. I don't want to let her down.

Congrats on #500! I think I blew past my 500th post without even noticing.

BTW, there are 2 other things that I forgot to point out about the ZoomIt program.

1.) This thing crushes the built-in magnifier that windows has (start menu-programs-accessories-accessibility-magnifier.)

2.) It also hardly takes any system resources at all, so you can fire it up and let it sit until you need it.

Also, I am aware there are paid alternatives to this, but for free, this is the best thing going. If you get a chance to use it, post about your experience here.

    Congrats.

Heres a tip for screencapture - no need for software:

Press the PRINT SCREEN button on your key board and paste into an image program (only make sure the printer is not connected)

Yep, that works. But, I think everyone will agree that the free program I posted does a much better job. You should check into it if you get a chance.

    1. The Print Screen key is the screen-capture equivalent of using a baseball bat to kill a spider. Clumsy, but you'll make a nice mess if you can make it work.
