So...What's Going On Your Business Card?
I saw this thread from about a year ago asking what should an affiliate marketer put on their business card.

I thought I'd ask again because with everyone being so secretive (rightfully so) about their sites and niches does it even make sense to include a website address? If you do, what do you pick? Your personal website or do you randomly pick one of your affiliate sites?

Or does name, email address, and phone number suffice?

I am posting this in the affiliate summit forum because I'm talking about cards that you'd hand out to the affiliates you'd meet here.

Your card will be going mostly to merchants, so you want to put on them the info you would like to share with a merchant. Some folks have 2 cards printed, one to go to the merchants, and one with contact info and possibly no site listed to go to other affiliates.

The other day someone was telling me their brother was into internet marketing. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised and said "oh, so he does the same thing I do!"

Turns out he doesn't...he has porn sites?

    So I'm all for clarity.

oops. I didn't make any new cards, but I found one for the admission requirement. :-)

My cards had a logo, telephone numbers, e-mail address, and the address to my ESL site which is in need of updating.

Well... Per loxly, that is the best option. Have 2 business cards. Lots of aff will do that. If ur into let's say travel and you meet a pushy merchant that you do not want to work with, give him a biz card with you name, address and an email address (hotmail) or something like that. Leave out your phone no. If they ask, tell them that it's you family phone or some excuse. Some will have a special card for CPA networks.

I have heard horrible stories where affiliates are bombarded with calls after calls following an affiliate event.

I posted a couple of months ago about business cards from office depot. 250 cards for 0.99$.

I redesigned my cards a month ago to include:

    My name
    My email address
    My logo
My main website address (which is my name .com)
My IM info for the various services
My titles - Affiliate Marketer and Writer (with the names of my two books underneath the Writer designation).

I specifically left off the phone number because I don't want random people calling me - if someone wants to call me, I can decide then and there to write the number on the back of the card for them. Otherwise, folks are free to email or IM me.

I just include my site logo, name, site features, email and URL. I do this for each of my sites and hand out the relevant card to whomever I'm talking to.

There are several types of situations where you might want to give out your card, such as:
    - genuine business-related relationship building
    - marketing specific services or websites
    - applications to new merchants/networks
    - contests where you need to drop your card into a bowl

For some people, one business card may suffice for all of those purposes and for other people they'll want to have 2 or 3 or more different cards. Last year I ended up taking just one style of card to ASE Miami, but at ASE Boston (can't make it to ASW ) I'll have more than one for sure.

I imagine I'll have more than one card for future events - I actually did consider it this time around - but at this stage in my career, I have no need for multiple card styles.

    I have three:

A normal business card with everything on it. I give this to people I want to work with.

A cheap business card with all the same info except an eVoice phone number instead of my real business line. These typically go to CPA Networks or people I would never want to work with who insist on getting a card. For the most part, I just don't exchange cards with people I don't want to work with. But some people won't go away until they have one. They're also good for the fishbowl drawings.

A promotional business card. This one has no contact information, and is basically just a business card sized ad for my site. These are great to hand out to booth babes, leave at restaurants, leave in waiting rooms, leave by phones, etc.

I'll be using a "standard" business card with the "usual" info...

    • Name and Company Name

    • Mailing Address

    • Phone (where I usually screen calls via voice mail or Caller ID)

    • A real email, but one that I use for "events" such as this.

    • Web Address? - YES, Of Course - I always show one of my hotel sites - someone may need to book a room for their "next" trip.

Michael coley, i think i did not get the one with the phone no. Jk.

But i never thought about the one that you leave by phone booths and in rest rooms.. I think that is a great idea, not sure about it's effectiveness. I need to test this out with a promo code or something when my site goes live.

I don't have any hard numbers on how effective Promotional Business Cards are, but my gut says that they work. Considering I usually pay less than $10 per thousand (waiting for the best VistaPrint promotions and stocking up), the cost per card is insignificant. I give them out to anyone I think would be interested, leave them with tips at restaurants, etc. I even offer to mail them out to any fans of my sites who want to give them to their friends (and I usually get a couple per year who request them). Even if only 1% of people who get one respond, it's cost effective.

Most important is not what card you give out but what you do with the cards you get! I remember a few years back I got to my room and was looking for a card and realized I handed it to someone else when they asked for mine! I now keep to piles, ones I know I want to keep and ones I just might need some day.

Just make sure to keep them in a different place than your own card.

Free Phone number hooked upto voice mail
I found a free "service" that will give you a number and voice mail. I don't want the site to get slammed, so if you want the info please email me.

There are no ads and it doesn't expire.

You can call one of my numbers and see what is like, I'll get an email with a sound file if you leave a message. 360-226-6857

I'm not allowed to get PMs on ABW, I'm too new.

eVoice has a free option, if you don't care about getting a local number. That's what I have used for several years. I put my eVoice number on all my domain registrations and on my "cheap" business cards. My outgoing message basically just says "If you leave a message it won't be returned. Email me instead." Any voice mails that are left get emailed to me. Of all the voicemails I've received, none have been calls I would have wanted to take.
