Estimating the Airspeed Velocity of an Unladen Swallow
To continue from donuts thread http://forum.abestweb.com/showthread.php?t=101457

But if you do have data (or questions or position papers) about the wing-flap frequency or air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow, whether African or European, I'll be up for that discussion as well, in the name of fun.

Of course, this is great data and information, but it doesn't address the final question that was being investigated... it was an intermediate step... if we do now know their air-velocity, can they efficiently carry coconuts over long distances? And if so, does this necessarily exclude and therefore disprove the theory that coconuts themselves are migratory.

I can't figure out which is cooler, the thread title, or Donuts input.

Are we agreeing, however, that it grips it by the husks?

actually, I think a hurricane has a much better chance of picking up a coconut and carrying it. but then -- how about a swallow (generic) picking up one in a hurricane?
