Couponheaven.com - Another Alleged Cookie Stuffer
I came across a site that is cookie stuffing, at least that's how I see it. Not surprisingly, it's a coupon site. At the top of the main page, there is some text that says "Find an online coupon by merchant:". Under that text is a drop down list of merchants. If you select a merchant and hit "Go!", a small popup window opens that lists the coupons for the particular store. At the same time, the main browser window is transferred to the store's website. The click to look at this store's available coupons shouldn't automatically send me to that store.

In looking at the "Take a Tour" page, it even states....
The xxxxxxxxxxxx.com Offer Control Window will open, along with the merchant web site.

I can list the site, but I am not sure it would do any good.

I resent that. There are just as many unethical PPC and regular affiliates as there are coupon sites.

Resent all you want, but keep in mind that I am also a coupon site. I tend to be more harsh on those in my area for obvious reasons.

Seymour it's probably not to late to hit the edit button.

And shouldn't this be in the unethical affiliate forum?

Probably because the other forum is new, created for that purpose.

If you are not going to list the site then this is just a discussion on cookie stuffers. If you are going to disclose the site we will move this to the unethical affiliate forum.

If the end user clicked on a link or selected an item from a drop-down menu, what is the difference between this and having the link go directly to the merchant site?

I did put "alleged" in the title because I have an open enough mind to realize I may be wrong here. What the site is doing may very well be ok to others, but not to me.

It's kind of like that other long thread we had here.

    Like their dropdown
Find an Online Coupon by Merchant

You can pick a merchant, looking for a coupon. They might not actually have a coupon but you got a cookie.

    So...

At a minimum it's deceptive marketing, but it also sounds like it's crossing into cookie stuffing territory.

I don't agree with the tactic at all. To me it is a forced click. I click on the menu to find out about the different coupons offered, but get that and a surprise too.

complaining here is okay, but if you want to make a difference, then tell CJ/LS/Perf or the other clearinghouses. they have compliance dept's that will look into it.

Indeed, how is this any different than the sites that say "click here to activate coupon" or whatever, and open the merchant when they show the coupon?

As long as the site makes it clear that when clicking something or selecting a store in the dropdown will result in the merchant's site opening, I don't see a problem.
