Well Done! This was a nice story to read. Goes back to the age old saying, treat others the way that you want to be treated. There just isnt enough of that going on these days.

On that note, have a great weekend!

I try to treat people as I want to be treated but I'd never take it that far. I'd be too upset to even think about being nice.

I agree with you 100%. Which is why I have the upmost respect for what this gentleman did. It takes a lot of guts to pull something like that off. Unbelievable really.

Good story. 9 times out of 10 tho, he would have lost the wallet. Last year some time, it was late like 3 in the morning, I was hungry so I went to get some food at a 24 hr. place. Car broke down on the way home so I walked the rest of the way. No cabs were running, had to walk thru a bad section of town and I usually have a few hundred on me in cash. So I take my drivers license, credit card, all the cash except a $20 etc, out of my wallet, put in my pocket. So just in case of a situation like the one above, they just get my wallet and a $20.

I don't know. He's social worker, don't know the age of the kid but I think he figured him out pretty quickly. Usually tho, not a good move.

Wow. That was amazing. From now on, when faced with adversity I'll be tempted to ask, "WWDD?" (What would Diaz do?) That guy is an astonishing example of grace under pressure and humankindness.

What a cool story! Thanks for sharing Patrick.

It's great that it turned out so well for both people - could have had a nasty ending but it didn't and 2 people are better because of it, which, in turn, adds more positive energy and the "just be nice" principle to the world.

What this guy did for the teenager was teach him a better way to think. Beautiful!
    Peace,

What an awesome warm and fuzzy. I'd like to think there are more people like Diaz than there are not like him in the world.

    Thanks for sharing!

Patrick thanks for sharing that story.

Maybe if our evening news focused on people like Diaz all the time people would come emulate that behavior. Instead it seems like crime is glorified instead. It breaks my heart.
I would rather live my life as if there is a God and die

isn't and die to find out there is.

    He's social worker?

social worker: Someone employed to provide social services (especially to the disadvantaged)

    Well, that's his job!

I'm not a social worker, so I think different.

The age of the kid with a knife, a gun, or any other weapon doing a mugging is not my bussines, old enough to do the crime, is old enough to face the consequences.

thats why I call BS on this, he was a social worker and in the end he only gave him 20 bucks, come on if this was real he would of done more.

My guess is this dude looks kinda still in the closet didn't wnat his mama whom it looks like he still lives with to know of his sexual preference and made up this story and she told her friends and it got to npr.

This for such a "great story" about a guy in "NY" didn't even make the local papers or news.

Mike, just because you can't conceive of anyone being kind or generous doesn't mean that kindness and generosity don't exist.

I call BS on your post. So there.
