March 31st, 2008, 04:33 PM #1Inquiry about asking a question to some of my affiliates...
Hello! I have one question:
What do you think about asking some of my affiliates that are also working with my competitors the following question:
"how are my competitors working on your site/s compared with us?"
Is it a bad move? I am not asking them for any specific info and exact numbers, ...I only expect answers like: "you're doing better than them" - "you're not converting so well as they do"... etc.
Thank you as always for your reply.

Hmmm, good question, but personally I don't think I would answer it....
I think a better question to ask might be "what can we do to increase exposure and/or conversion on your site". I'm always interested in discussing opportunities for increased sales from my site, and would respond well to that!
For me, stats are confidential, even as general as ranking merchants among each other (ie. better/worse). Plus, in some cases, certain merchants are given profiling for reasons unrelated to sales performance - it's my own site strategy, which I wouldn't share.
Some affiliates may jump at the opportunity to discuss, but I prefer the idea of opening general discussions of increased sales/conversions.

I've asked in the past, if there was anything we could do that our competetiors aren't doing, or if there's anything that we could do to generally help our program perform better..
My answers often involved "well, <Xcompany> does this..if you did this, combined with this, it'd be much better"
