Could someone kindly explain to me how to utilize a datafeed?

I understand I download it and open it up in excel, but then what?

Feeling a little out of the loop here and trying to figure out if this is something I want to use or not.

    TIA

    ~Michelle

Ill tell you exactly what a datafeed is.

Basically its a database of items supplied by a company. Typically it will contain the item number, the description, the url where it can be bought, the URL of a picture, etc

You feed the database into some form of software which then generates webpages either product for product or index pages or index and content pages.

There are hundreds of ways to use a datafeed. Typically you make a template of some form and when the company updates its datafeed. You mash the button and generate the pages all over again with the new info.

Lots of online websites with multiple inventory are database driven. Particularly the ones with hundreds of items eg the electronics, pharmacy and motor industries.

Use with care as they can generate hundreds and hundreds of dodgy pages.

If you don't know about datafeeds and using them you can checkout Webmerge

We recommend that our affiliates try the free download and if you have any questions

You can ask in their ABW support forum:

FWIW in its simplest form Excel can be used to add HTML to a database using the Search/Replace feature. Perl scripts are also extensively used.
