    Yahoo + AOL?
"Yahoo rumored to be in AOL talks

Just when I thought it was safe to head for the bar comes news, courtesy of our colleagues over at the Wall Street Journal, that Yahoo and AOL are working on a deal to combine the two companies' Internet operations."

    http://www.news.com/8301-10787_3-9915815-60.html

As the article says, could be just another ploy by them.

Yeah, now I saw this just pop up at MSN:

News Corp joining Microsoft in bid for Yahoo?
Talks to join MySpace, MSN, Yahoo at 'sensitive stage,' sources tell NYT

So they're just going back and forth.

I'd be interested in the details of an AOL proposition. I know there have been talks of splitting AOL's web properties division from the dial-up business, but in that case, the talks were about selling the dial up to another company. AOL has some very valuable online assets through its ownership of Advertising.com and the other Platform A companies such as Tacoda. Advertising.com has the greatest reach out of any US ad network, so leveraging that in a deal could be a good move.

I'd put my money on Microsoft. If Y doesn't do it willingly, Microsoft will do it the old fashioned way - they'll get control through proxies.

AOL, are they still around. LoL

For most of the projects that AOL touches, it literally goes away.
They used to be the biggest dog on the block but they don't even have a bark now.

Exremely large customer base at one time and things evolved but their business model still remained the same.
