New Merchant (Great Puzzle Shop) Takes Leaks to a New Level
Very interesting and disturbing finds on a new SAS merchant site.

There is a banner in their left sidebar on all pages to a Russian gift shop. I've written and asked if sales from this site are commissionable via their SAS program. It doesn't appear to be an affiliate link. Seems to be another site of the merchant.

This is the least of the issues. I then found a page on their site (listed in their nav menu) that leads to an "affiliate directory." Geeeeze - They list the "best" affiliate programs to join, etc. on this page. The page isn't yet linked up but the implications are staggering.

I think it would be a really good idea to have some kind of "best practices" for merchants about stuff like this. Maybe a network wide "rule" that leaks to other affiliate programs or merchants on their sites are not tolerated?

Rexanne, the russian gifts site has a program on SAS as well, so if they combine shopping carts it could be to the affiliates advantage...now one issue with the affiliates section is that they have

    Online Dating Sites, International Dating

Casinos, Las Vegas, Lottery Web sites

listed as two categories...the thing to think about is, do you want the traffic you send to be exposed to casinos and lottery types of websites, and are they going to be including adult dating/hookup sites or pg dating, or combination sites? If you wouldn't put it on your site, why send your traffic where they could be exposed to it? Good find.

In their defense, they have some pretty cool puzzles =0).

I'm starting to look at a few things when deciding on a new merchant

    domain age: Created: 2008-02-18
    address: p.o. box
    domain reg: domains by proxy
    leaks yes/no: yes
    typos: "About Our Poducts"

This might be a great merchant, and merchants can run their business however they want, but a little research on aff's part can save some grief over the long haul.

The contact person we have for Great Puzzle Shop -Puzzles & Educational Toys is Customer Service and the location is Online, Michigan. Please contact this company for more information regarding the geographical areas of Michigan that they offer thier products and services.
The word "merchant" is used much too loosely.

The page isn't yet linked up but the implications are staggering.
What that page says is that they're SEOs/affiliates with a drop-ship site.

COMING SOON! WE ARE UPDATING THIS PAGE. Here you will find links to some of the best FREE affiliate programs available. We have carefully selected these affiliates to partner with and we are sure you will find these links and partners interesting and useful.
a little research on aff's part can save some grief over the long haul.
A little basic quality control beforehand could also save some unsuspecting affiliates who don't know enough to check from being bamboozled.

It runs an affiliate program of its own (merchant ID: 15847). Adding the Puzzle one to the Russian one (instead of starting a new one for the Puzzle Shop) would make both track, but they chose to start a separate one. Maybe because of the reversal rate that the Russian one is showing...

Well, it's a non issue now - they "removed" me from the program. LMAO - Geeeeze, sensitive are we???

The email I sent asking about the banners and affiliate program page wasn't near as harsh as it could have been and I even offered to help them understand the issues.

    Scary ...

    Onward.
