    widgets versus parasite/adware
On the heels (or, should I say fingertips) of the thread "A reminder on loyalty sites" I am hoping for some specific clarification. First let me divulge we're a loyalty affiliate/publisher - giving our members points for purchasing. We're exploring creating a widget that our members can place on their desktop (not browser) that will alert them of special promotions, new stores added, etc. We're trying to be sensitive to our advertisers and fellow affiliates/publishers and play it straight. Here's my question: if we leave cookies out of it will we be okay?

    Thanks,
    Nicki

A enduser/shopper Physical click (preferrably from a domain hosted creative) is the only legit way to set a cookie.
