Have we got any comeback against sites that copy googles SERPS and use that as content?

One particular site has thousands of my keywords and content as google sees it used as his content like when he replicates a SERP page where my sites own the first 20 or more results.

So his content is effectively mine. The @)(#&*#@)( thing about it is that he is beating me in one or two areas using my content!!!!!!

    Any Ideas?

I'm seeing that all over the place too. These sites are dubbed as Links sites.

I think the days of those sites have to be limited, though, as Google gains nothing but lowering the quality of their search results by spidering these sites. Can't help but think that in the next few months a change in their alogrithim is bound to knock these sites down to oblivion.

    At least, I hope so.

Is this one of those mini-search engines where it has your link on it? Personally I don't mind those because they are back links for me. If on the other hand it's not linked to you I'd get on their case about it.

Yes it is somewhat like you describe and does link to me however he uses a format like product page 1 (His competing page to mine) then product page 2,3... etc exact copies of the serps. pointing back at page one.

I wouldnt mind so much of the )(@#*@)#(*@#)@(*@# didnt start beating me at money earning keyphrases that I have lead on for yonks using MY CONTENT.

Yeah, I think we're talking about the same thing. I think these sites may have their own little spider that goes out and crawls the web - judging by the results. These then put your link/page title/and a short excerpt from your web page.

I've never seen them listed as backlinks for me, although they certainly have enough of my pages listed. Personally, I wonder why Google is even crawling these sites - doesn't make much sense for a SE to spider other SE result pages. But that's just me, I guess.

My logs also tell me a get up to 10 SOBs a day copying huge chunks of my site with frontpage. (Can tell by the requested dirs and extensions.) I started blocking their IPs then their ranges as they are on dynamic hosts and then stopped blocking them as I found I was blocking huge tracts of potential customers off their ISP as well LOL.

Can't block em, can't chop em up into tiny pieces and feed them to the cat, cant castrate them slither by slither using a blunt razor (but the thought makes me feel better) LOL

Up until recently, I think that was fully true and may be pretty much true still. However, I've seen some lower ranking sites listed as backlinks from time to time recently for both my site and a friends site. Why, I don't know.

We may not be talking about the same thing then. The sites that I've found listing my site don't use Google results. They generally have a strange description from my page - not like Googles listings. The spider seems to zero in on the "first paragraph" of a page, or something similar. As such, lots of times, the link title doesn't make any sense for what is listed as a description.

Also, the "ranking order" on these sites doesn't mirror Google. I may be #1 for a result on Google but will be listed something else completely different on these mini-SE's.

I've had some of my results in there too.

Looks like a sort of snare to fool search engines into thinking that the page has content, when it doesn't, but it's not strictly spam either.

    Hmm.

I'm just hoping that Google is able to pick up on this "little snare". It's really beginning to clog up the search engine results. Plus, it just doesn't make any sense for Google to spider another SE's results. If more of these sites continue to pop up, the SERPS will end up flooded with these things, I'm afraid, since it doesn't seem like it is horribly difficult to create these types of pages.

I experience the same here in Europe, especially in Germany since about 2 weeks. In my mind google must be in bed with them.

One of the problems you have with Google's content is that they get a lot of it from ODP/DMOZ which is open content. Google then takes that data and adds additional sites to it. If your data is found on DMOZ, there is nothing you can legally do to protect it as it is all open source.

Google (through the Goolge API) allows upto 1000 queries a day. Using scripts it is possible to query the Google index and repackage those results into your own interface. The site could just be repackaging Google results and displaying them as their own. I think all that Google requires is a 'Powered by Google' link and disclaimer which can be located at the bottom (way at the bottom even) of the pages. I experimented with the Google API for use as a site search tool repackaging the results into my own templates but I never got past the playing around with it phase. It of course is just as easy then to use those results for nefarious purposes.

In German SE www.web.de which uses Google results a company called suchwelt.de does the same, and behind them is a company called Ameland200 LTD at Gibraltar which is a big sex and porno producer. Are those overtaking the web?
