Not a major deal but a major annoyance. I see this in all networks, expired creative. I should be able to go and create links and TRUST that they are all current and working. I have a case of insomnia so i'm just working through some LS merchants and finding banners from 2002, clicking text links taking me to pages saying "This offer is no longer valid" or blank pages. This should only take a few minutes to go through it and get rid of old, expired creative. Doing this assures that we won't have expired creative on our sites, which is good for me, you, and my site visitors.

Whose fault is this? The merchants or the networks?

Definitely the merchant's fault if the creative is expired or outdated. If they were properly managing their programs and following which creatives were producing they would notice these things! Just me 2 cents.

TrustNo1 probably uncovered a way to tell which merchant AM's who rely mostly on Parasites for generating those monthly stats. Too lazy to ever work on landing pages and rotating creatives. Post a stupid coupon or incent rebate a few times a month and let the BHO's feed on them. Then play Quake and surf porn to earn your AM paycheck.

You hit the nail on the head of one of the things that annoys me big time!

The mechants need to do some housecleaning on all of the networks!

Your right Michelle ...."The mechants need to do some housecleaning on all of the networks!"

Some find they have to fire AM staff and professional AM management firms to revive a dieing affiliate program gone to the double dipping B-a-HO's.

I agree, the Merchants need to get their creative straight!

Clean up their act and get rid of the parasite!

I bet there would be alot of AM be out of job if the Big Boss find out what kind of creative they put on their well known name!

Get your act together shady AM's and Merchants!

    Before it's tooooooooo late!

I believe there are 2 sides to almost every story.

For Irvs, I am constantly trying to keep creative up to date. Sometimes, due to the lack of space in CJ - I have to expire old creative to make room for new ones.

I am CONSTANTLY reminding affiliates to get rid of expired banners, and I am always reminding affiliates to please read my newsletter so they can keep up with changes.

I have affiliates using banners that expired in December. They don't read the newsletters and don't read emails I send them either.

Please be sure you are opt-in to receive email from your merchants. I know the folks here at ABW are for the most part, very careful to keep their sites updated and read merchant newsletters, but many others are not.

Linda you put out a great effort for your clients. I'm sure CJ still has in place a way to rotate new banners and change landing pages on seasonal or special offerings. make sure the creative keeps the same CJ # or name and swap out the new creative after changing the landing page.

Yours, i had right on my site, was just looking for anything new from Drivewerks and noticed some outdated stuff, so didn't waste anytime there. The aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh was for all the other merchants i wasted time on today. Some merchants still had links from 2003, Overstock has dynamic banners that aren't really dynamic since some still have March, a jewelry merchant has a couple of coupons available in the creative, one works, the other doesn't, had to go thru the checkout process to find the working one, links going to nonexistent/expired pages, that kind of thing. It would be nice to be able to go in and get links and trust that they all work and current.

No, all you have to do is to call it the "current creative" - then when you want to change out a banner to something new, just load it up. As long as it is the same size, it should work fine.

I have several merchants who do this. I have their banners up and never have to worry about it going out of date.

Less is more makes this a neat little way to maintain control over the creative inventory AND ensure that everyone is showing the most up to date ones too, still need to get some of our creatives under control, I think Mondera has about 600 live of which 200 are presently being replace

    Cheers

... somewhere on ABW for Merchants to post good coupons. I am truly fed up with some of the Linkshare Merchants who never put an expiration date on their coupons or sales. Then you have to go through all of their creatives, testing and testing, until you find a link that works or an offer that is valid. It's so time-consuming. (I don't do it anymore; if they can't bother with an expiration date or e-mail, I can't bother with them.)

With CJ, I have to rely on e-mails and internal mail. So if you are a CJ Merchant not using e-mail notification, listen up. We don't have time to hunt down expiration dates in the 2-click method on CJ. (You see a link, you must click the description to see the expiration date. It takes forver to find current offers.)

Performics - well, I only read the affiliate e-mails. Any offers that are not in e-mail don't get posted.

I must complain about Overstock too. It's getting reported back to me that Overstock weekend offers are just NOT working. The recent 5% off and $1 shipping worked for NO ONE who tried it.

I tested myself on a real purchase - I did not 5% off. I contacted customer service and was told because my item had free shipping, I couldn't get the 5% off/$1 shipping offer - though that would have saved me more.

Then - kerplunk! - when I checked out, I was charged $1 shipping anyway! Ergh!

    Enough is enough.

I agree with Catalyst. I think that all three parties involved - merchants, networks and affiliates, need to work together on this issue. Our program has been active for a little over month now, and I have already updated the banners last week. We have also added a lot of new products, and I would be posting new banners soon.

A couple of solutions to this problem would be (A) if the networks could add the 'date created' or 'date updated' for every banner, that way affiliates can make a desicion if they want to use banners that are old or not and (B) if the affiliates start paying more attention to the newsletters (only 20% of my affiliates have even downloaded any links, but that is a whole different topic to discuss).

    Thanks,
